in all honestly there is probably like 5 days a year tops that i really need rear wheel drive. Id take a rwd any day if its a nice luxury car or something over awd or fwd there way more fun to drive and just feel good to drive. If the road is that bad generally i either a. dont drive or b. just wait till it gets better

99 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton. Console flips up to seat 6 semi comfortably and with 200lbs of weight in the back + ski gear it handles the snow great, even though it's a RWD. 5.3l has 240 000km on it and still runs well and starts first try in -30 weather. If it was 4WD it would be perfect

/thread we have a winner: 35mpg, over 500 miles on one tanks of gas, perhaps the most reliable car ever made (I have 200k on my 94 and I would drive to chile in it without hesitation), underrated snow handling, plenty of room for gear with the fold down seats, and it will hold it's value better than any car mentioned so far.

But in all reality the best snow vehicle is usually whatever the driver has become accustomed to driving in the snow. Every vehicle has its handling quirks. I'd personally take my truck over my family's Impreza just due to the fact I know what to expect out of it in every condition.

why would you need anything bigger then a half ton to tow a couple sleds.

2nd gen tundras are class 3 which means they are rated for 10,000 pounds, more then enough for some sleds.

If you sled you'll quickly realize towing a trailer up little trailheads is a pain in the ass and you'll want to put them on a deck.
Then you'll realise your tundra can't take the weight of a deck and 2 sleds and you'll wish you'd bought a superduty.

of course you can tow 2 sleds with a 1/2 ton. When I said multiple I meant like 4+ a double axle trailer. Even that is well below 10000 pounds (which is actually a class 4 hitch). Still though anyone who has ever towed a trailer knows that it's a million times nicer to tow with a diesel, and as the guy above mentioned, if you are doing two sleds you might as well put them on a deck which means you are going to need a bigger truck.

i tow a 20ft v nose on the reg with 3 side by sides a sled and an atv in it.

i drive this threw the mountains in colorado so there is definitely some steepness.


if your truck cant handle two sleds and a trailer then a.) you need more power b.) you need to get that thing looked at.

Subarus aren't the snow gods everyone thinks they are. I've driven my brother's STI plenty of times in the snow (with snow tires), and while it's fun to slide around in empty parking lots, my FJ cruiser (also with snow tires) shits all over it in terms of actual snow/ice driving. Plus, I can fit my skis in the trunk.

That's the wrong subaru.
STI's have stiff ass springs, and are lowered. They suck for deep snow. most people have outbacks, which have pretty good ground clearance. The best though is a lifted GL with studded tires.

its really not that small, just need to know how to load them. its 8 and a half wide so two rzrs go in sideways put the quad in the v and the sled goes in sideways also.

i should mention that we dont always load that much the trailer is something a bunch of us share and that is what we loaded on our most recent trip to moab. so it can be done.

also that truck in the picture was a loaner while i was getting a new bumper, if anyone can throw down that much cash on a platinum tundra definitely should the inside of that thing was soooooooooooooo amazing.

This car is by far the best, its made for skiing/boarding. Its got 686 waterproof vinyl for a wrap, custom roll cage, bern carbon fiber roof, dragon optics windows. board inside, boot cubbies, custom painted interior, and a skullcandy sound system, its also got swivel seats for ease of putting those boots on in the car provided by union snowboard bindings. i wish i had this car so bad

this thread had so many stupid arguments...

OP it really depends on your preference, you a car guy that likes to tune and have some fun going fast? get a sti...you like trucks? get a 4wd truck and snow tires. like to offroad? get a cherokee with ski racks or a wrangler with a rack on the trailer hitch. there really are a ton of options and cant realistically be melted down to one "best ski car".

I had a toyota FJ cruiser last winter and it was an excellent ski car, had ski racks on top, the whole interior floor of the car is plastic so wet ski gear is no problem. plenty of room in the back for gear, great truck. I now have a 06 jeep wrangler unlimited, a lot less trunk room but I didnt buy it just for winter...I still get the job done and can carry all my gear, 4 friends, and never have to worry about getting stuck. and driving to the mountain with doors and top off just looks badass and is super fun.

Hornbeck has a pretty narst land cruiser. My Passat wagon is the sturdiest shitter in snow. Even more so then my dads 2 ton silverado. The traction control is out of this world.

2009 Off Road...is that yours?

Here's mine, and my current favorite "best ski car."

2011 Xterra PRO-4X with 6 speed and Goodyear Duratrac's, it does the job and then some. Perfect for my current needs.

I have a 2011 Honda civic si Its great on gas and wicked fun to drive. With snow tires i haven't had any trouble yet. And it has a digital speedometer which is dope.

Hellll yes I have the same jeep but with the straight 6 (better engine imo) but its a fuckin boss mines got about 130,xxx miles and still runnin great, better than a Subaru I think bigger and more powerful, more clearance and you can throw truck tires on it and it wil go ANYWHERE
