Looking for a solid fisheye

I have a 60D and I'm looking for some interesting shots. Before you all hop over me saying fisheyes get boring and are played out, I know. I'm not looking to use it in all my shots, but I do like how the shots generally turn out. I have checked out the Rokinon of course and don't really like how it doesn't have an auto focus. It also may be a little bit too wide for my liking. I tested out the Tokina 10-17 in my local shop the other day and LOVED it. It may be a little too steep of a price however. Does anyone have experience with the Tamron 10-22? i know it's not "fisheye" but it is super wide. Is there a difference Between a "fisheye" 10mm and a corrected 10mm?
Also are there any other cheaper alternatives to any of there? I know I could get like an add on fisheye, but I've heard nothing but bad things about those

this, just sold mine for 230 (didnt use it enough to justify keeping it). great build (all metal), great pics, great lens overall

the af isn't a big deal at 8 mm, the dof is so huge, just close up the aperture a bit and almost everything will be in focus.

First of all - the difference between a fisheye and a wide angle is drastic. A fisheye makes things bulge in the center and fall off at the edges, straight lines (besides those running through the center) are bent dramatically.

Second, on any crop sensor camera you have two options for projection - a crop fisheye or a full frame fisheye. Crop fisheyes (the "6mm" or "8mm" rokinon, bower, whatever all the way to the 11.5 nikon) all have essentially the same projection - they are all just as wide as one another. Unless you get one of those fisheye zooms, like the Tokina.

You can also put a full frame fisheye on a crop body (usually 15-16mm), it just gives you a distorted wide angle view. Some people hate this, I like it personally.


Auto focus does not matter on a fisheye. it's so wide that finding focus is not hard at all... if you really are worried, you can always set up your shot and review it before anyone flies through your frame. The price difference is worth it IMO


The 10-20 is a pretty terrible lens. It squishes things vertically (along the axis of the shorter edge of the image), and it has terrible complex distortion otherwise. If you are looking to buy an ultra wide angle for your crop sensor camera, buy the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8, there isn't a better UWA for crop sensor cameras on the market.

Wide angle: Tokina 11-16

Fisheye: Rokinon 8mm or 14mm


Wide angle=rectilinear which means that you don't get that fisheye distortion but still get a wide field of view. You still get some distortion but much less than with a fish.

Werd. Thanks for all the input guys! I'm def going to look more into the Rokinon because I want the fisheye effect. Plus I can afford that one at the moment. Im still kinda confused however why you say 6-12 or whatever would look the same on a crop sensor?

You can find the same lens with different brand names and focal length ratings on it. Brand names include Rokinon, Bower, Samayang, ProOptic, etc. they are all exactly the same, they just have different paint on them.


The only one that is different is the Peleng, which is shitty.

sure its not a fantastic lens, but i don't get why some people HATE it. Its mildly sharp, has decent colors, and just suffers from some mustache distortion.

I think it's because it's 400 dollars too much to pay for the images it produces, it may be worth it if you were only planning on using it for video, where the sharpness doesn't matter as much.
