Moving to Oregon from East, need advice

I will be moving to Oregon early this summer when I'm finished school and need some advice on where to live. I want somewhere relatively close to Portland as well as Mt. Hood, preferably somewhere with a bit of nightlife. Thanks for any suggestions.

A really big thing is budget, and do you want a apartment, studio, or house?
place with night life that is close or in downtown would be SW Portland, or NW. NW would be the best in my opinion, but can also be the highest price, either way though in Portland we have some of the best public transportation and it will get you any where you need to be.
Also SE is closer to the mountain (cheaper houses) about 5-10 min drive to downtown or 10-20 min bus ride.
Give us some budget info, and what style of living your looking for and we can be more specific!

If your looking for nightlife, Portland is where you want to be. I'm in SE portland and its a lot less expensive than downtown (NE) and closer to the mountain than most parts. It takes me 7 minutes flat to get downtown because of how close highway 99 is - if you bike, you'll get around fine and public transit it awesome too

northeast is the best. alberta is great and the neighborhoods are nice. fairly expensive but very close to downtown. i recommend the alameda-grant area. great times

Oh, you're from the East? My advice: Go back.
A little Oregon humor anyone?
All times are Eastern (-5)
