Is it the ZERO G's that gets us HIGH on skiing?

I seriously remember trying to huck a front flip on the little hill behind my house when I was like 4 years old and could hardly turn.  But, it is the combination of speed and Zero G's that keep me riding.

also negative g's, plus centripetal force.

Ha ha... yup. Now I'm wishing for G's neg, zero and pos .... We need more snow.  We got a little today in the Rockies.

Come on NSers... just give me a couple stories.

Ok so I'm scuba diving in the caribbean, absolutely beautiful, but then I hear this rink a tink tink on the inside of the oxygen tank, next think I know a monkey bursts out and punches me square in the bare cock and balls, needless to say I was baffled.

That is a nice point. There are so many times when I like to slow it down and just vibe on the woods and the mountains.  The Natural High comes in many ways.

I don't wanna be that dick, but I really was expecting more for the Klaus episode.....

I just really enjoy being up in the mounatins on the weekends and skiing some pow and progressing in the park. landing a new trick is a great feeling

For me, I'd say it's mainly overcoming the fear that skiing brings.

For example - when I was just learning, I wanted to go wicked fast but I'd be scared shitless if I tried. But as I progressed I could go faster and faster until one day i could go as fast as I wanted (for the most part) without caring about falling. Then along with that, putting in some clean, carving turns feels so good, especially when you carve it well and get popped off to the other side, then the other side... - this is why I picked up racing.

Another example of fear - hitting trees. When I went in my first glade, holy shit I practically walked down on my skis. Now, the feeling of being able to say "fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, fuck you..." to each tree as I pass by them as high speeds - priceless.

Example number three - jumping. First time I just straight aired a jump - yikes! But, boy was that a rush. I felt like I was flying - Zero G's. Then incorporate spinning and flipping into it and not being able to see your landing - a whole new fear. Now that I can do tricks on jumps, it feels so good because I don't have to worry about not knowing where I'm going to land.

Four - rails, boxes, pipes, etc. Similar to the others, its fricken scary at first, but as you get better, it gets more and more fun and less and less worrisome.

But then there's the whole social aspect of skiing - being with your friends, chattin on the chair lifts, laughing about how fuckin freezing it is, yada yada yada.

So what it all comes down to is that that fear is still there, but it may not present itself as fear, rather as excitement. The shear thrill of accomplishing something that scares you to try is amazing. And that excitement and thrill is what gets me HIGH on skiing.

I started skiing around the age of 3 and enjoyed the sport more and more around 11, until then I didn't like skiing and snowboarding wasn't that big. Around 11 I joined a ski club and shredded moguls through my senior year in high school. At this point, park skiing was blowing up so I ditched moguls, picked up some Teneighty's and began shredding park. Seeing Tanner Hall blow up the scene, Cusson's style, JP's snow loop, and CR's bio 1440 was pretty rad.

Dang, some good stories and some awful imagery of the grapes.  Ouch!  That'll make you wanna be a Pow only skier.

IMO the first five minutes of the video was a long dragged out compilation of jumps, with that weird 90's music with Klaus mixed into it. After that, when you interviewed Klaus on the hill, that was absolute gold. I loved hearing about his inspiration to get into skiing, and his first pair of boards. I'd like to hear some more about his past, through his years of skiing, and maybe about his thoughts on ski technology and where he thinkings skiing will be in the future. Even some stuff about his brand Obermeyer, that would be pretty sick.

Thanks for the input.  It is amazing how open Klaus is to new technology.  He loves innovation and new ideas.  We'll do an episode on his ski innovations and I'll ask him your question.

About the first 5mins...  It has almost been split 50 50 with people loving it or not liking it at all.  It is long though, I agree with that.  It really was intended to be a remix track with Klaus sound bites.  The track is full of SUBS that make it more interesting... But, you need phat speakers or headphones to hear it.  My bad on that. Having said that, sooooo many people have been singing "Got that Zero G feeling."
