So what's the name of the new grab?

Quick question for people who are in the know, what are kids calling the tweaked safety grab that's the hot fya right now? Is it a method grab, or do we have another name?

Figured I'd ask because I see it all the time now and I don't know what to call it.

its a fucking safety grab.  any grab that is tweaked is just a tweaked version of that grab.  when you toss your skis out the side like that (sorta fake nollied too) but dont grab its called a pancake.

Hmmm... see, I don't want to have to say or write "TWEAKED SAFETY" every time I see that grab. The tweak makes it look completely different than a standard safety grab. This is why I'm wondering if anyone's calling it by a different name. I don't want to get into the whole "different sports, different names" argument, but you don't hear any snowboarders calling a method grab a "tweaked melon".

so for every tweaked grab theres a different name? no even though i think this is such a dope looking grab the tweak is for style on a grab, a different name is not necessary

i see your argument- but we dont have different names for a tweaked mute or tweaked blunt, they're just the grab with a tweak.  same goes for safety.  we cant really call it a method because the untweaked trick isnt a melon, its a safety.

I'm not trying to argue that every tweaked grab should have a different name. I'm ASKING if anyone's calling this grab by a name besides "tweaked safety." Thank you for your time.

word... i'm fairly certain the answer is no.  although names of tricks are argued about on the regs so for all i know i could be wrong.  i say tomato, you say tomato.

There are far too many variations of ski grabs to give a new name to every tweaked/crossed/uncrossed grab. I agree that tweaked safetys look far different than a normal safety, but think about how much different uncrossed mutes and japans with poked out legs look compared to their standard counterparts.

Like Holte said... it's a safety.

Tweaked with new rotations and much more center-mounted skis make it look a bit more fresh than it used to be.

You should just call it something different everytime you do it. example.

you and your friend on the lift looking at the jump line at keystone figuring out what you wanna try on the triple set.

Friend- what are you going to do on the jump line next run?
you- first hit i'm gunna do a styley ass fish stick three, then on the second hit i'ma do a rodeo 5 with a butterfly grab, and on the last one a sick floaty slipper grab shifty 180.

then as you go and do them just do that tweaked safety every time.

i still just call it a safety, but method and tindy are pretty accurate too. they look great when done well, but they used to categorically get ripped on. although it's worth noting that they were usually accompanied by that goofy thing where you stick your non grabbing hand straight up like a dork

Yeah but semantics aside, the point is that the method on a snowboard and the tweaked safety on skis are very similar in appearance. A safety grab could be called a johnny slamdangle and it still wouldn't change the fact that when it's tweaked, it looks like a method. A method would still be a method even if a melon wasn't a melon, you catch my drift?

Just for the sake of argument; in snowboarding (and skateboarding) a tweaked mute is called a japan, a tweaked indy is called, depending on how you tweak, either an indie nose bone or a tuck knee, and a tweaked melon is called a method. I agree that it is kind of silly to have a different name for every variation of a trick or grab, but you have to admit that for the sake of saving time and unnecessary adjectives, it is a much more concise way of describing a trick to a person who didn't see it happen.

Sure, you can call it whatever you want, but that's not going to help anybody understand what you're talking about. And by the way, I prefer not to call our sport "freeskiing". I call it "hügendubelling" instead. It's a free world.

Seriously though, I get tired of people saying "it doesn't matter, call it whatever you want." We might as well abolish language and just speak in tongues instead. In order to communicate, things need names. Trust me, it would be very difficult to communicate if we didn't have names to describe the tricks we do.

Imagine the X Games announcers trying to commentate if tricks didn't have agreed-upon names. They already have enough trouble as it is, don't make it harder for them.
