Recommend me a Telephoto lens

If you get the older nikon push pull, get the 2.8. its a very nice lens, same glass as the modern version, just different build.

how would it compare to the canon 70-200? also, is the push pull that much of a pain in the ass?

I can't comment specifically on the Nikkor, but push/pull zooms in general are notorious for being dust pumps and loosing up as they get older.

I've got the canon 70-200 f4L, and it has never failed to perform. Simply an amazing lens for the price. Great contrast, good sharpness at f/4 and good IQ, the epitome of an L series lens. The only way I'd even consider getting rid of mine is to replace is with a f/2.8 IS II. You won't be disappointed with it.

And as for the tripod ring, I've got a cheapo ebay ring, and it caused some rubbing where it mounts, taking off some of the paint. Not a huge deal, because my lens already has a good amount of wear and tear, but it's something to consider if you want to resell eventually. Is the ring a necessity? No. Is it nice to have? Yes. Is it worth spending the 140ish dollars for the Canon ring? Not really.

Don't buy the sigma, you get what you pay for.

70-200 f/4 IS or f/2.8. From what I know they are much sharper than the f/4. Someone should verify this for me.


I also like my 85mm f/1.8 if thats a good enough focal length for you

I was considering the 85mm. The only reason I am drawn away from it is that I think a telephoto prime would kinda be pointless in my situation. When Im shooting a jump from a distance, I want the lens to work more around me, not having to move if I like the spot. The situations I would be using a telephoto would require variable focal lengths, so thats my problem.

sharper yes, but not by a huge amount. if you are shooting pictures, you can deff just sharpen in post

my suggestion: buy a dslr for pictures, then it won't be an issue (;
