you guys ever noticed it was in no way the taliban that attacked the US? It was the al quaida (or however you would spell it). The taliban is just a rather local group of highly religious people that fight for maintaining the power in "their" country. Im not saying that they didnt support the al quaida or anything, but those 2 groups are 2 different things.
The rather "funny" thing is that America supported to taliban during the war between russia, which made the taliban able to get control over afghanistan again. Now we (as in all nations involved in afghanistan) are fighting against our "own" weapons.
The fighters in the taliban arent necessarily terrorists. Some of them might be, but others might just be people that wanted to defend their country and lifestyle against intruders from the outside.

It doesn't matter what their true motive is on the battlefield. Americans will treat all of them the same way, as enemies. Its not like the troops think everyone they are fighting are terrorists, they just know that the people they are fighting support terrorism. You really can't justify the Taliban at all. They are a corrupt group who is not just a "highly religious" organization, they rape women and kill innocent Afghans everyday. I did a year long project on this shit so if you really want to argue that the Taliban is just a religious group fighting for their country you're a complete idiot.

well put, we also didn't support the Taliban we supported al queda too. when we where paying the mujahideen to fight the russians they ended up winning and split into two groups, the taliban and Al Queda. at one point america was actually giving money to the man we shot between the eyes.

Keep in mind in a country with 300 million people, aproximently 30 million of which are in K-12 school (school for those aged 5-18ish, and the years covered by most public schools), there is a wide range of subjects covered, which will be biased based on such factors of local history, school board policiy, and each individual teacher's interest and beliefs. The idea that a highschool history education in Cincinnati will be the same as that in Richmond VA, or Portland OR, is irrational.

Standardized tests are done at the state or local level. Essentially the state sets a standardized test requirement, and then the state board, or county/school district selects a test that has been determined to meet or exceed those requirements. In WA, which is neither a large or small state, with I guess about a million K-12 students, every student is required to pass the HSPE, the high school proficiency exam in reading and writing, and end of course exams in Algabra & Geometry, and Biolegy. There is no social studies required testing.
My district required a certain number of credits in each field though, for social studies we had to take the equivalent of 3 years of history/social sciences, the classes were IIRC, Intro to the Modern World (Intro to poly theory, and some current events/politics), Modern World History (Renecance- Cold War when I took it), US history (colonization through 1980ish), and Global Citizenship (Modern Liberal bullshit brainwashing). World and US hist, were each a year and the other two were 1/2 year courses. In addition many students took additional courses such as sociology, psychology, AP European History, AP Govenrment (Poly Sci). IIRC, Global Citizenship discussed US aid to the Mujahadeen, and it might have been briefly discussed in U.S. History. This was several years ago, and focus may have shifted since than. The state testing requients are current, and different from when I graduated (still well post NCLB act).

This, this, and fucking THIS!!!... Goddamn kiddies i've pushed this point twice but everyone is too busy with their patriotic heads up their asses to notice. If you really want to respect the soldiers then respect their mission and right now their mission is to win hearts and minds and convince villages that the Taliban is not the way. THIS IS WHY THE MARINES IN THIS VIDEO ARE SO FUCK-TARDED! NOBODY should condone what they've done. Who give a chimpanzee's red ass what they've seen in war, Any ISAF soldier worth his shit in nickels who has served over there (including my brother) can tell you that the reason these boys fucked up is because they have single handedly set back months if not years of community work and relationship building. IN ADDITION they have just posted a minute long recruiting video for the Taliban and put shiny red targets on the backs of International soldiers in Afghanistan. 98% of American soldiers do a damn good job, these ones didn't. They are selfish, unthoughtful hazards to their comrades and should be punished to the max.

Feel free to disagree but I believe this is the only point that should matter. I'm going to take your silence as acceptance that this is a completely valid point. Continue shit-storming amongst yourselves.

Ya know, a look at how the French armed forces have behaved towards those in developing countries over the last 50 years makes many African dictators look polite and humane. My guess is that while their were other factors to be taken into account for the actions of this Afghan, and the other who shot members of the FFL not to long ago, the actions and attitudes of the French training him, may have contributed to his violent actions, and that we will probably never know the interactions between him and the now deceased French soldiers that led up to this event.

Blaming this action on the U.S. is just silly. Dispite what you may hear or read in the news and press, the Afghans are not stupid. They know the difference between U.S, Germans, British, French, Czech, and other NATO/ISAF forces, to include their individual ROE and EOF rules. While the actions of these stupid Marines, has harmed the International mission in Afganistan, blaming this isolated event on it, is ridiculous.

I'm not blaming it entirely on what the ameriderps did. Their actions though have once again created larger division between the east and west. They have provided an excuse for when the relations turn sour. Im aware of how tense things already were over there, but i can almost guarantee the marines actions would have spurred these shootings in one way or another. And yeah, they may understand the differences between each countries, but to them the west is the west, end of story.

It OSA big area, with several distinct coultures spread across a vast and variable landscape. The idea that those living outside of 100 km of a major area get any sort of national or international news on a regular basis is unrealistic. If they are in a remote area (most ofthe country) away from a Canadian A.O. they would have little reason to know of Canada's involvement.

ignorance at its finest. New Zealand sent 140,000 to fight in WW2 and 100,000 in WW1. Considering it's population size, proportionally that would be well more than most other nations including US sent. In WW1 10% of their population went to war. And they fought in some of the most vicious battles, like Galipoli, and ended up losing over half their forces. 5% of their population was killed. They know something about war.
