Park skiing easier to learn than snowboarding?

I'm not. I've had some friends switch to skiing. One kid by the end of the year was spinning on off boxes, doing swaps, and had fronts, backs, and switch backs by the last days.

Mostly the rail game. Once they learn to slide the rail, they learn to grip it, then the spin fest comes super easy.

But if he snowboarded park before that he most likely has the feel for rails/boxes. Part of the learning process is learning to slide boxes and getting comfortable on them, if he has been snowboarding then he probably already has that feel for rails so it would be easier to progress.

i'v snowboarded in the park once in my life and could slide most rails. granted i surf/longboard but still snowboard rails are a joke compared to skiing. took me like a full season to get rails down on skis, after racing for 8+ years.

you can't really make that comparison though because if he already snowboarded then that pretty much explains how he caught on so fast. a couple years ago one of my buddies decided to rent a board for the day (he had only been on a snowboard one or two days before that in his life), and by like the second or third run he was throwing backies on the (small) park jumps and such. doesn't mean snowboarding is easier to learn, just means that if you're good at one, it will transfer over in many ways to the other.

i say its easier to learn how to ski but harder to do tricks
and harder to learn to snowboard but easier to do tricks.

park skiing is more difficult than snowboarding as we have 4 things that can fly in any direction when bailing as well as being strapped into 2 separate boards. just my opinion.

I'm not sure I've had a few boarder friends say skiing is much harder, and cite some windells "switch day" videos or that edit of Tom Wallisch snowboarding, some of the snowboarders are a total mess on skis while Tom Wallisch is there doing mistys and backflips and rails.

I snowboarded for 4 years and was pretty shitty at park, even though thats all I did. But the last month of the season last year I switched to skiing and now im already more then twice as good at skiing park then snowboarding! So IMO skiing is easier to learn.

actually, yes. i own a burton split-board and a park snowboard. i ve done probobly 100 days on both. i think snowboarding switch may be akward at first but over time i can ride either way just as well. where as skiing switch is always more difficult then skiing forward.

i borrowed my friends snowboard for 2 hours last year, having never used one before in my life. by the end i could do grabbed switch 180s and ungrabbed 360s, and i could do board slides both ways. it was probably a ton easier for me to learn it because i have the balance and awareness from skiing, but i was surprised at how easily i picked it up.
the only way someone could really judge is if they started skiing and boarding at the same time and committed to each equally.

I snowboarded for a good 8 years before I switched to skiing. once I actually learned how to ski I found i way easier. when I was just starting I remember I could hit rails and boxes but I couldn't ski in between them. I think it's more of a general feel for park riding rather than a ski vs. snowboard thing. most of it is the same concept and muscle memory so if you know how to do it, once you get over the learning curve it shouldn't be much different.

A switch back lip on a snowboard = way harder than skiing switch tricks.

Switch is waaayyy easier on skis, IMO. I snowboarded for 10+ years and was never great at riding switch. Once I started skiing I could carve switch probably my fourth time out and now I ski switch more than I do forward.

You're wrong.
Firstly the balance on sw back lip on a board is virtually the same as a regular front board once you're on the rail.
Secondly I can 270 on and off both ways and slide rails all 8 (not including nollie/fakie ollie) ways on a board after a handful of days (claim) but I can't do all 8 on skis even after several years.
Switch on a board is barely any different to regular, to the point where I find landing switch easier than forward. Possibly you could argue that carving switch on a board is harder than on skis, but once you factor in that you can see way better I think that compensates.
(Admittedly I skateboard).
I do think there is a point that getting more and more tech is easier on skis, but starting out, board is way easier.
I have no idea why I bothered to write this now but what's done is done.

It all depends on the persons background. For instance, If the person has a skateboarding background, he might pick up snowboarding very easily. Where as somebody with no experience going downhill sideways could have a very hard time. I used to skate a little and I snowboarded for the first time last week. I could get down squares easily and I'm confident that I could get down a black diamond had there been any open. If I was just starting skiing today, who knows where I'd be? I wouldn't say one is harder than the other. i think it just all depends

I've skied since i was 2 started snowboarding when i was eight.
Did both simaltanous for a few years.

Got into park boarding.
A few years back I went back to skiing and started in the park.




Skiing is harder.

Espaicially jibbing.

Umm...how about no.

Once you can back lip on a snowboard switch back lip is essentially the same.

Just cuz you can back lip on skis doesn't mean you can switch back lip, they are completely different motions.

inb4 someone tells me I'm wrong, ive done both.

Just switched this season:

Rails: Quicker to learn on a board (50/50s), but almost no learning curve when you change over; progress more quickly on skis

Switch landings: Skis are easier by far. I've pulled out switch landings on skis that I would have absolutely wrecked on a snowboard.

Actually riding switch: Snowboarding is way easier.

Jumps: Skiing is easier

Shifties / Grabs: Boarding is easier

Spins: Easier on a board (for me). I'm having trouble with spotting my landing too early and coming out of my spins too quickly.

Flips: Havent got there yet.

Things that have given me trouble after changing over: spinning, urban-on, reverts from switch at speed.

Overall I'd say snowboarding is easier to learn park on, but if you can already board then the learning curve to skis is pretty short.

snowboarding is way easier tbh. i actually started snowboarding before i switched to skiing and i found rails to be so much easier on a board. first rail ever, little round rail, busted out a back board first try. skiing... not even close. the balance for railsliding is imo much harder. not to say there aren't difficult snowboarding tricks like lips and such though.

jumps i would say are about even. i hit some small jumps my first day boarding and it was a little awkward at first. i wouldnt say there is a huge difference though between the two sports.

Well. I've discussed this quite a bit with my friend. And yes obviously, if you're good at one thing then the other one will come easier to you than a beginner.

Instead try looking at the pros and see what they do to determine what is the easiest.

The pro boarders and skiers throw the same tricks on jumps mostly. Therefore you can easily conclude that the jumping skill requirement is pretty similar.

And I guess railgame is the same, even though the tricks are a bit different there.

Another one of my arguments is that while I believe it's easier to learn simple skiing than snowboarder, then usually style requires more skill when you're skiing.

I find that even though there's a difference on the style of boarders, it's must more obvious when there's a huge skill difference on a skier, just looking at his style of a simple trick. Like a 360 or 540. That's one of things I really enjoy about skiing compared to snowboarding..

People cant even stand/turn both ways starting out on a board. At least on skis you can navigate the trail even if it is pizza style

That was kind of stupid to assume it was a small rail in his backyard or that he hit a small jump, and kind of shows how little you have to go on when you are crackin stupid jokes. And riding switch snowboarding is nothing. Ride switch on a skateboard a few times and you basically have it down. And riding down pizza style is just the same as going down sideways on your board, with the exception of you guys making a mess of the runs. Every guy I know who has done both has agreed that skiing is way gnarlier. Plus while working at a resort I have seen people go from the bunny hill on one day, to squares and even diamonds in a weeks time. Where as I havent seen many people go from bunny slopes to squares in the same time frame. And if you have done one, you will pick up the other 10000x easier. But my friend who has switched back and forth has said he prefers skiing, although it was much harder the boarding. He still cant hit rails on skis after years, but the year he rode a snowboard he was hucking backies and slidding rails like it was no big deal. but whatever, snowboarders and skiiers are always gonna argue about this regarless of how much proof there is to the ease of snowboarding. plus how many times the skier has points that make sense, where as 90% of the boarders just revert to insults and jokes because they really have no idea what they are talking about.

I'm willing to consider the possibility what I did on a board might be considered a fakie oliie backlip but it really isn't too different once you're on.

I don't have a rail in my back yard, I don't even live in a country with (regular) snow. The only times I've boarded were at beaver creek on holiday which has a decent enough park and once in a railjam in the UK.

Not claiming I hit huge jumps, just that I found 180s easier than straight airs.  I find 180ing/and FS/BS Flipping stairs way easier than straight ollies and kickflips so why not? I actually found switch back 3s (probably full cabs actually) easier than regular back 3s too but thats also true of me on a skateboard.

No argument there, but once you get used to carving on a board you can get good way quicker IMO. I found carving toeside (backside?) way harder than switch frontside for the first hour or two. But after about two days I could get down pretty much any slope and was solid enough to hit rails/jumps. Not many beginners get to that on skis.

Getting started spinning is easier on a board.
50-50s (Board) on rails are easier than ski slides. Boardslides are easier than 50-50s on skis. Spinning on/off is way easier on skis past 270 though. In general bigger spins seem easier on skis. Butters, Ollies etc are all easier on a board. Landing is easier on skis in general.

They are two completely different sports and its almost impossible to acurately compare (I've tried I know but it doesn't really work) because its different for everyone. I learnt to ski age 3-4 and I first got on a board at 19 with 10 years of skateboarding under my belt so its not a fair comparison. Some things are easier on both.
I also enjoy watching both and riding with a mixed crew of skiers/boarders. I presume you're a boarder and I'm not hating, I just think you're wrong to write of skiing as easier, or in your words, lol wut?
