I dont see a lack of jobs. Just a lazy society.

I just graduated my operator engineering program (trade school) and have been applying for jobs. I’ve been on craigslist, indeed.com etc. and I see tons of different types of jobs. The state is hiring (california) The government is hiring and so are many different industries. It is not a lack of work, it is this bullshit generation that has been raised on video games and expects everything and works for nothing. I was there, I got out of that shit and now I am applying for jobs in the $50+ range with a loaded resume. But I had to put in work, not only in school but to pay my tuition. Am I wrong? The nationwide sense of entitlement is through the roof. Also, can we begin the discussion on why it may not be worth it to go to college and get that English degree, art history degree….What a fucking waste of time and $$. /Rant.

i am not an engineer persay , I am an operating engineer, I build and construct with HUGE equipment. Yes i do allot of calculations but i didnt draw the project, there is a difference. IMO it is much more difficult for me to get an engineering degree instead of doing what i will be doing.

The occupy movement is'nt ignorant?  With there made in China tents, made in mexico chairs and the food they buy from walmart? JObs are hard to find if you are living out of your means thus irresponsibility. WORK is very easy to find and though it may notbe fun or exciting it is still work and if you are not living out of your means it will get you through. I do not look for jobs, i am not a bitch, i look for WORK.

i agree 95% with this. i've been telling people this shit. people come out of college with a degree in english, but they don't want to be a teacher and they can't actually write well enough to make a living at it. people leave with a psych degree and realize that being a psychologist isn't just peaches and cream.

i would have to agree. thats why you have the occupy movements in the first place..

also. there is always work out there. its just a matter of if you are willing to start at the bottom and work your way up. but america has done a great job at making kids think they have an entitlement to exactly what job they want because they have a "degree" in some shit.

sorry, but most rich people dont start off rich. they started at the bottom and worked their way up over 10, 20 or 30 years of working their asses off. something my generation completely misses.

Do what you love. If you cant find someone who is wiling to pay you for what you love, go out and make it happen on your own. Dont just do if for the money.

I did take macro in college. If those who where not filled with a sense of entitlement did go to wrok doing something " below them" then the invisible had would shift tremendously due to more money in the system, new demand etc. and therefor create new, bigger better psoitions for them. But since those oppurtnuitys are not good enough, not served on a silver platter, its not gonna change. I am very smart, i am doing what i need to do to get work and create my future. I do not have an excuse for sitting around waiting for my free money in the mail.

  There is a job gap. Those who are to fucked up to get a job, DUI , Criminal record, Lazyness . and the seperation between what those people would be rewarded for not doing anyting by the government(welfare) and the next tier of employables who look at those jobs with a nose in the air. That gap is the foundation to the economy.

Say we are building a building ( economy) this process takes time right, you start at the begining and then build up. Well , the foundation is done, the next story is built and so on. well we are currently at the height of construction, in the 90's the bottom part of the building was finished, the top still under construction. NOW, the bottom workers are saying fuck this and taking the once finished bottom storys , taking it apart and taking it home and selling it for crack (haha). NOW, to keep the building up , the guys working up top are gonna stop working on their upper floors and sending materials down to fix the bottom, but before they are in place, they are stolen. That will not end, this is no substainible.

 It has become OK to get free money from the government if you have a good enough excuse to convince yourself it is ok.

I agree.something that stood out the most out of OP was the whole 'sense of entitlement' thing. So Many people just expect shit to be given to them..

I agree 110%, theres jobs, mabeye not the great job that people somehow feel entitled too, but if you work your ass off you can get by no matter what IMO, at least the way things are now.

as my english teacher told our class:

"Once i got my english degree, i realized it wouldn't get me a job, so i became a teacher."

as for art history, what do you expect to do after college? teach? nothing against teaching but what else is there to do that has significant job openings?

That is very true. I stand by my belief that if you go out and find something you love, and make that into a career, you will have a much more successful and fufilling life that say, a VP or a CEO. And i believe that most people, if they really tried, can do that.

Lets just say that you don't have anything figured out, everything that you think you know is wrong and your arrogance is not going to help you out in life at all. There is no one size fits all plan for everyone. If everyone did the same shit as you then there would be no jobs.

You don't even have a legitimate engineering degree you noob. So take a step back before you tell other people how to live their lives.

My friends girlfriend went to school for two years and received a degree in art or some shit. Now she lives in the big city, and is a waitress at Chili's.




I completely agree with you on this. So many people getting into debt to go into an art school and get no where...
Although, my friend was offered an internship for graphic design at Liberty after he mentioned that he was at an art school.

There is just no real sense behind putting money towards an education that will job, and that job will never pay off your debt.

I'm the fully informed on the American economy right now, but in Canada, I know there are plenty of jobs, plenty of industries that are in demand of workers. Many of these jobs can be achieved by 2 year programs at IT schools such as SAIT (where I am now). It's nowhere near as costly as Uni, and the job positions aren't as competitive.

My industry that I work/ am taking school in has more openings right now than there is students. And these are amazing jobs.

Work towards something, and it will pull through for you.

There will always be unemployment. The market is imperfect and the range of jobs never fits the job demand perfectly.

Still, I agree that people should work at least something until they find a job that they really like to do. Better than doing nothing.
And it's rare that there is NO job in one's region, but it's common to deny every job that doesn't grant you more than 1500 $ per month or requires hard work.

I just got a job working at a manufacturing plant that makes packaging for food.  Full-time hours, with a starting wage of $10.00 an hour.  Honestly, I couldn't be happier to actually have a form of employment, while other people have declined or even hated on job offerings from this factory.  Those are the same people that complain about how hard it is to file for unemployment and/or bitch about social security income. 

Give me a fucking break, in this kind of job market, it's great to be so easily set up with a job such as in my case.  I'll spend my time making money instead of struggling to find a fluffy, easy place to work.  Guess what people... most of the laid-back jobs are being held on to by the people that have them at this point, so good luck trying to fill a position like that, especially considering the number of other people fighting for such a job.

Basically, my motto at this point is 'Buck up, don't complain, and make money'.

Well I don't really know the ins and outs of systems like that because I've never been compelled to use them.  I'm just sick of people that are too lazy to work, and even lazier when it comes to working the system.

I know that, but I'm talking about the people who can't scam welfare and complain about it.  Maybe it's because I live in the second poorest county in NY, but I have had way too much exposure to the bottom rung of society, and it's a special blend of people that piss me off.

Yeah,  I understand the frustration, but from my perspective (I've been in commercial construction for six years now,went on unemployment for 3 months last year in between jobs)  I see a lot of hard working guys that don't want to be on it, bitch the entire time they are on it, get back to work ASAP and pay way more into the system the 99 percent of the time they are working than what they take out of it when they are laid off. Do people abuse the system? Of course, but is that the norm? Not from my experience.

Truth. My mom is a HomEc teacher.. She was at a school for 13 years making somewhere around $65k. Then they cut the program. Three years of working part time and making around $30k a year, and she finally has a job again.

She has a masters degree in education.
