Binding ripped out

Last weekend had an unfortunate event where the heel piece of my Head Mojo 12 bindings ripped out of my brand new skis 1st run. I took it to the local shop to get an opinion on what to do because i wanted them mounted center and didn't know if that would work because the binding that just ripped out was mounted center.

The guy working said i should buy marker bindings and mount them because they have a wider hole pattern. However, when i looked the holes weren't far enough away that they would completely miss the existing hole. I asked about this and he said he would patch the existing holes and then mount the new bindings.I am very worried that they are going to rip out if i do this because some of the new screw will be so close to the old hole.

My question is: will the new bindings be able to rip out easily now that they will be so close to the stripped holes?I am worried that the "patch" or whatever won't be very durable. Will marker bindings solve my problem??If you have ever had experience with this please help!

That was kind of confusing so if you have a question please ask!! I need some help!

by patch the holes he means slamming some plastic plugs in them, nothing more. Drill holes can be placed damn near next to existing holes, only a mm or two.

Marker bindings will probably not "solve" the issue, but they may help a wee bit.

It's more likely that you have a softer core in the ski than other models, or its just a plain soft core ski.

here is my personal expiriace, armada's reccomended drill bit is a 4.1x9.5, atleast it was on my AR6.  Because armada is an all wood ski(no metal) you would be fine drilling with a 3,5 bit(smaller diameter).  I am guessing the binding ripped out because the holes drilled in the ski were too wide, or not tapped properly. 

Most all ski bindings have the same thread on the bolts, so going to a differnt binding wouldnt prevent the binding from ripping out....

tanner Hall uses Peak 15/18's on his armadas so no reason to switch bindings

Okay, so i guess my main question is now will I have to mount it back a few cm from my old holes,which were mounted center? I was asking about marker bindings because the hole pattern is a bit wider and was wondering if i could keep them center mounted with markers?But if i keep my same bindings i am thinking i will have to move them back.. Btw guys thanks for the help so far

Marker bindings are not going to help/prevent binding rip outs.. I even believe the wide mount patern is BS..(plus their toe piece design can come loose/start to wobble..) Mojos are nice bindings.. Put inserts in the holes you have now! That way you are still centered, keep your bindings + you could even use those bindings on an other pair of skis!

bindings ripped out 1st run on brand new skis? to me it sounds like whatever shop mounted them owes you new skis

knew this was gonna come up,my ski ejected on a 450 off and while walking up to get it someone already set his spin off the rail and crushed the binding right off.

his ski popped off comin off a rail, then a kid behind him hit the rail and landed directly on the defenseless ski

you will most likely have to redrill 1 or more cm back from center, to be safe.  But yeah as said before, if these were brand new Ar7's and you ripped a heel out, there were probably miss mounted the first time... or you just have a Gnarly huge wreck.

Ask them if they have an armada specific drill bit, it is a 3.5mm bit with a small 4.1mm section, as armada does have a metal binding plate on almost all of their skis. What you experienced should not happen, legitimately the binding should have broken before it pulled out, especially if it got hit by someone else as you said. It may have saved you a pretty gnarly wreck at an inopportune time having it happen this early though. I would def talk to the shop and see if they can do anything for you

is that metal plate new, to the best of my knowlege, armada uses kevlar and fiberglass not metal, skis like the volkl mantra and kendo have a metal sheet in them, armada does not.

The plastic piece that holds the binding on the ski cracked and broke in 3 different spots. Therefore why i kinda wanted new bindings because the plastic piece now scares me

its just a binding plate, and armada sells an special bit for drilling them because of it. the metal is no longer than 1/3 the ski length. The mantra and kendo are different construction all together, they are what would be called a metal laminate construction or sandwhich construction, full sheets of titnal on top and bottom

I'm surprised this hasnt been said yet. Heel pieces are on a track that allows for a fee cm's of movement so they can be adjusted. Just move the position on the track and redrill.

Agreed. Remount the heels 15mm forward and you're good.
