In 2010 someone died from head injuries due to the water trucks. She was running behind the water truck that wets down the roads to keep down dust. The truck stopped while she was trying to get her head under the water and essentially ran head first into the back of the truck. Not sure if it's reliable, but apparently, water truck related injuries are #2 for incidents (second to sexual abuse/harassment sadly).

Most of the deaths over the years at Burning Man happen in Reno or on route, but that doesn't change the fact. Many people over the years have died at burning man, most not drug related oddly enough.

Long story short:
It's a giant arts and music festival that promotes self reliance (off the grid) and human connectivity. One week a year, a city is erected in the black rock desert in Nevada and lots of amazing shenanigans ensue for a week.

Also from what I've heard it's pretty much a cop fest now. Plus it's a lot of "oooo burning man that looks cool" than whatever they were trying to achieve.


Although I would have liked to see nick sand speak in 06.

To my knowledge there was only one major arrest last year. Yes there are police on the playa but they are looking for violence and blatant drug distribution.

As for the "ooooo burning man", Well shit man if you saw a 60 foot yacht roll by you, a 160 foot tall temple that spans a quarter of a mile burn up in flames, a life size replica of the Trojan horse or the other countless mind blowing things that are all in the middle of the desert, you probably would stop in your tracks and at least say "ooooo".

Looking back I'm not quite sure why I incorporated death and summer country concerts.

Probably because even living here in San Francisco people ask me two things about burning man. One being about the drugs I'm taking or won't be taking and 2 about how many people have died at this music festival.

I tell them A)Many people attend the burn sober B)it's not a music festival and to my knowledge only 1 person has died (apparently I was incorrect)
