so i've always loved watching dudes rip in the park on pow skis, and i wanna try. a few of my friends rode hellbents in the park (the ones without camber) and i tried them and they were fun as hell. i'm curious if the New Life's would be rideable in the park? it's kind of a random thing i'd like to try coming from Surface Nine Life's plus I can get a killer deal on them.
Recently I just rode my surface new lifes In the park and I loved how they rode. They are stable on rails, really easy to butter (with the 3 stage rocker) and have such a wide platform for landing jumps. Now for the downsides, they are very heavy, they are a pain to hike with, their swing weight is much heavier than what your used to ad it takes some time getting used to and finally riding them as a park ski means riding during icy condition which means getting back to the lift will be hard. (oh I forgot that they are symetrical so that's a plus) Go for it if you want but Id say get some one life instead. (or whatever surface calls their 110-115mm underfoot ski) PM me if you want to know more about them.
thanks for the info man, the only thing i'm worried about it them being heavy. i mainly do smaller tricks like 2-4's out of rails and 5-7's on jumps so nothing amazing, is it easy enough to pull a 5 off a medium sized jump in them? i can get them for about $200 so i'm considering them.
You will definitely be able to do all those tricks. (it just might take day to re learn them and realize your abilities on such a heavy ski) I'm 6'0 and 159 pounds (I ride the 184s) and I was able to do 2s out and 3s off of jumps on my first day so I doubt ou will have any problems.
for 200 bucks i'd give it a go. They wont be light, but super buttery fun. I probably wouldn't want them as my only park ski. I struggle with 4s off on fat skis, bt then i'm not that good. I rode Lizzies in park, i think circa 110 under foot is the best waist so one lifes might be better?
That said people do slay on new lifes in the park, there was one crazy good vid of some guy in skinny pants slaying park on New Lifes. I'll see if i can find it cos I wanna watch it again!
Yah I wouldn't recommend them if you didn't already have a pair of normal park skis but since you have some nines go for it. (for $200 you really can't go wrong)
184 new lifes are my one ski quiver. i ski them on literally everything. even took them to hood last summer, because thats all i have (until i get my double times mounted). but i love them in the oark. super fun on rails. im used to them because i have been skiing new lifes for 2 seasons, so i dont really have a hard time in the park with them.
do it. they're definitely harder to spin around on than lighter skis but the rocker is nice if you suck at spinning out like I do, it makes it harder to catch tails/tips on the rail. and as was said earlier, they're super stable on rails.
I ski my 181, -4 mounted, 115 waist, surface live lifes literally everywhere. I've hit hundreds of rails with them this season. The rocker and light weight really makes them easy to spin. They're pretty stable on jumps just don't land backseat cause you will wash out.
