Texting... while skiing?

I was at the hill the other day just cruising down a groomer, and I look to my left only to see myself passing a 13 year old doing a straight line pizza with no regard to where he was going - solely focused on texting his buddies on his flip phone.

So this got me thinking, safety issue? Sure, we've all sent a text or two from the lift or standing around, but this kid sure took it to the next level. I definitely haven't seen this specifically in any rules or regulations, or on any signs or lift ticket fine print.

Texting while skiing... do you do it?

Hah! I actually just did this the other day. I wasn't straight lining or anything, but I was turning into the lift line and was sending a message. No safety issue, but multi-tasking like a boss.

I was standing at the summit of my home mountain texting the other day. I was almost in the woods though to be courteous so I would not get in anybodies way.
I'm off the side in the woods facing away from passing people holding my phone down in front of me.
Some guy rides by me and goes "No honey he's not pissing he's on his phone" I started dying laughing, because I didn't even realize that's what it looked like haha.

I heard about people doing this for the first time the other day, some guy on the lift was talking about how a kid collided with him skiing down because the kid was texting and skiing. Sounds like a dumb idea to me, can some people seriously not wait till the lift ride to text?

was riding MSLM the other day and just got on the lift. this kid was cruisin under the lift going a decent speed. the closer i look i realized he had something in his hands in front of his face. totally focused on texting, no attempt to turn or stop, he absolutely smokes the lift pole and double ejects eating shit. serves him right though and i wouldnt be surprised if he got hurt.
pretty crazy to see. if youre going to use your handheld, wait for the chair or at least dont be riding.

haha this. on my mt im always jumping in and out of service, and constantly looking for a network on and off like that kills the battery in my phone, so i just leave it in the car and check it at lunch/smoke breaks.

But I dont know about you but sometimes i enjoy being on the mountain because i dont call or text anyone. Being removed from your phone for a few hours is nice.

both my pipe/spring gloves and my cold day mittens work on my iphone. I dont text while skiing much, but iphone mic headphones under a balaclava = high speed ski phone calls.
