MTS files

damn them.

just got a new camcorder (panasonic hdc-sd90k to be exact), and it writes MTS files, which are kind of a bitch. they won't open properly in MPEGstreamclip and won't import into FCP's log and transfer window. i've googled it and still have come up with nothing. is there an easy way around this or am i going to have to convert them all to another file, then run the clips through MPEGstreamclip after?

they should work with log and transfer if you plug your camera/card in. you need the entire structure, not just the mts file. I know there is a program that can convert raw mts, but it is much more annoying and i forget what it is called

i mean that's what google told me as well, but this is the error message i'm getting:

"AVCHD" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media."

by the way, i have the camcorder directly plugged in via USB cord, and when i go to import file in log and transfer, all the MTS files are greyed out.

thats weird. I can stick my card in, and then in fcp, i click on the card and then it shows thumbnails of the video files. maybe try a trial of clipwrap and then format your card and take a few test shots and see if it works better in fcp. or switch to premiere, which is what I ended up doing after fcp x

Try handbrake. but it should work in log and transfer, maybe google around and see if there's an extra plugin to make it support your camera or something

Clip wrap works with great with mts files, I use it to convert all of my avchd to prores 422LT.

sounds good, i'll try it out. after running em all through clipwrap, is there any more converting needed (i.e. through MPEGstreamclip) or can you just throw it onto FCP how it is?

does it give the ability to conform FPS and size as well? i guess i'll just go DL it and see

for some reason, I have found that with clip wrap prores files they work great in fcp but for some reason you have to convert them again through mpeg stream clip (just to prores 422 again) if you want to conform the clips with cinema tools. Kind of a hassle but also kinda nice because then you have a full speed and slow motion copy of your clip.
