Watermarking the centre of a photo

I mean come on... like if you're uploading a photo to the internet, you're not going to sell it anyways. No magazine would EVER buy something that has been on the net already.

Put it in a reasonable location that doesn't ruin the photo, then as people appreciate your photo they will also appreciate you as an artistic photographer.

Right?

Or am I way off base?

i'm not quite sure if the filmer of that first music video has some kind of neurological disorder that causes him to twist his hand like that, or he's just so stupid that the zoom in/zoom out is extremely entertaining to him and he simply can't stop doing it...

i'm no photographer; i'm a web developer. basically, any imagery that's displayed online is at 72dpi. if it's saved out at a higher res than that, it'll scale up proportionally so that it's still displayed at 72dpi unless your code specifically says to display it at a certain size. if it's saved higher than 72dpi and set to a specific size, it'll just get down-res'd unless you right click and select 'view image' or whatever in your browser of choice. so yes, printing any photos from the web will not give you the same quality as if you were to print a dng or whatever your camera saves photos as. basically, jpgs suck for printing, so if you wanted a quality print, you wouldn't want to do it with a photo saved from a web page.

As I quickly go back to look and make sure my watermarks aren't ginormous. Haha.

My dad said that I need to put them right across the center like a month ago, because he claims that people could crop mine out and use the shot for something if they wanted. I told him no, and honestly I highly doubt anyone would want to steal ANY of my photos.

Watermarking across the center is ridiculous and unnecessary.

I really like the small watermarks people throw off in to the corners too. My watermarks always tend to actually be pretty big and I really need to work on re-sizing them.

Do you guys think this is unnecessary?

I know the shot isn't great, I'm just wondering if that watermark is too distracting, because I'm thinking about making it smaller.
