So I got into the University of Denver...

does anybody on here go there now? if so you wanna tell me what its like as far as skiing goes or the school itself for that matter but more specifically i know its a bit of a haul up to the mountains is it tough to get up on a regular basis?

Congrats on getting into DU. Lots folks ski in colorado and most folks get the pass mentioned above or the Rocky Mountain Super Pass (Copper + WInter Park). Usually there is college two for one deal in the fall so keep an eye out. Good Luck :)

not tough to get up to the mountains if your have a car or know people w cars. the ride from denvers like 1.5 -2 hrs depending on where u go.

I go to school at DU and I haven't once regretted my decision to come here. It's honestly hard to NOT find a ride up to the mountain since it seems like well over half the students came to the school for the skiing. Also there is an alpine club that fills up an entire building with people who want to go on the ski trips. Congrats on getting in!

i've never been there but i've heard its fairly simple to get to the top of the mountain if you take the tram up to the top. make sure you bring your skis though so you can get down. Also, If there isn't snow on the mountain then don't ski down it or else you'll probably get hurt or die.

p.s. always ski with a partner and don't forget your avalanche beacon ;)

colorado seems like a sweet place except for the people that go there because it seems like a sweet place making it no longer a sweet place...

DU is good. My brother and I went there. There are plenty of people that ski at DU. As someone mentioned above - half the student body says they came out to Colorado so they could ski. With that being said...there are not a lot of good skiers at DU. Join the Alpine Club. Most of those kids ski a lot and the people that run it/ran it while I was in school were pretty fun to ski with. They also know how to party. Even if you don't go on the Alpine Club trips you will meet skiers in there. I would recommend buying the Epic pass. You can ski Abasin early season (typically opens in mid Oct) and you can ski it super late (sometimes open until July 4th). Here are the approximate driving times:

Abasin (1 hr 10 mins)
Keystone (1 hr 20 mins)
Breckenridge (1 hr 30 mins)
Vail (1 hr 45 mins)
Beaver Creek (~2 hrs)

Winter Park is around 1 hr 20 mins, Copper is about the same. I have gotten to Loveland in around 55 mins.

CU (Boulder) is not closer to the mountains than DU. Not even a little. And CC certainly has a longer drive to the mountains than DU and CU. As long as you are not an engineer or science related major you will have Fridays off - this makes for a good ski schedule and if you stack your classes you can ski a ton.

i got in, got a 10k/year scholarship, and really wanted to go there... but that's still an absurd 36k/year. hence, i am at montana state for half the price. i've heard relatively good things about DU though. the few complaints i do hear are about the dominance of greek life. but if you're into that and the cost isn't an issue, it sounds like an awesome place to be.

i got into CC early action and i'm heavily considering it. but i also applied to du. honestly, du didn't impress me much when i went to stay the night, it seemed very traditional and the people there were not as casual as i might have liked(AKA NOT LIKE CC LOL) overall i wouldn't really mind going there but i proabably would go to boulder or CC first.

Anyways spending the night at DU didn't do much for me either but it shouldn't be used to judge the whole school because how much fun you have depends entirely on who you stay with. I had a couple prospects and I skipped the tours and took them to some parties and they loved it by the end. Also the people at the school are super chill if you know the right ones.

I think of CC as a place where people are the opposite of chill...It is also a hardcore drug school so if you like doing cocaine every couple days it might be the place for you haha. Also colorado springs BLOWS

I think it's the same everywhere...some people are nice and relaxed (aka "chill"), some are not. I personally found my own group of people. As a class (sophomores this year), we singlehandedly took the school to #1 marijuana smoking school in the nation. not that that's a good thing, but it just goes to show how many people are "chilled out" a fair amount of the time here.

it's not chill academically, but you don't go to school to smoke pot and drink. but yeah it is a hardcore drug school, you can find anything within a matter of hours.

There's a good amount of cocaine at CC. Whenever trust funds converge with white kids there's going to be a shit ton of cocaine.

Yes kids are 'chilled out' at CC. That's fine to a point. I would rather put a gun in my mouth than talk to some hippy bro about the gnar slack lining trick he did today.

And if you love weed, yes CC is great if you want to take it too far. Getting back to your rastafari roots of upper class Connecticut. We get it, weed it cool but not that cool. CC is the bubble of taking shit to extremes, this is one them also look into vegainism, compost, protesting stupid shit while not actually using their trust funds/societal leverage and other heady shit.

CC did give me a good education and provided me the skills for a solid job. the name doesn't carry dick outside of CO, so know that before you get in.

Regarding DU, I've met many kids from DU at the mountain, all of them bros/horse faced bros. I've met way more kids from Boulder/CC that actually have the skills to do things later in life and some point might actually do them.

I went to DU for a year as well. The skiing was great, but I didn't care too much for the people there. More of an upper class Greenwich type of crowd. I guess it all depends on your preferences though. I now go to CU and I like it a lot. A whole variety of people at CU and that's what I really like. At DU, it seemed to be people from similar backgrounds
