Ok. I'm mew to this freestyle skiing thing. When It comes to jumps I'm at least in control in the air, but when it comes to rails i just slam every time. I've been looking around online for tips but nothing seems to be too helpful. I never even thought to turn to newschoolers until now. So If anyone has any tips please feel free to post them. Anything is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Find a rail low to the ground and just give it lol. Pop 90 deg try and land square and look to the end, you're going to fall back a few times just try and correct it.
approach the rail straight on, spin 90° and bend your knees a bit to help absorb the impact. Biggest thing I can say is dont worry about landing on the rail right at the start... A little air time/ distance onto the rail isnt a bad thing and it makes it easier to square up. And it adds hella style to any rail
i had the same problem and what REALLY helped me was just committing too it with speed. dont approach the jump to slow or u will just flop. hope this helps you because it sure did help me.
this is really all it takes. go off the pointers posted above, but the main key thing to do is just to commit. the first time i tried actually sliding a box and not going straight on it, it worked. as long as you commit and dont lean back, you should be fine.
The easiest way to start is on PVC pipe. That's how i started.
Its easier than rail and boxes because u can lean a bit back without catching ur edges.
And as the time goes on and u try u will get more comfy with it.
That video was hilarious .... , watch what other skiiers are doing the only way to progress on a rails is to keep trying and get a feeling for it, falling is how you learn.
this on a flat surface take a long board or a skate board run up to it hop on side ways if you do it succsessfully that is a lot like hoping on a rail and thats where your weight and center of gravity should be. it has helped me. also keep your feet flat and dont get on edge
It's hard to help you if we dont know a specific problem, or if we dont know specificaly how you fall. But practise makes perfect. Start out of some easy boxes, then slowly move up, don't lean to far back. AND BE CONFIDENT!!!
you may be throwing too hard (like getting on a little past 90 degrees or with enough momentum that you naturally land switch) try gripping with the front foot and looking down the mountain
Remember to dull your edges. You sure gonna fail with super sharp market fresh edges =S
After that. Just feel committed and jump on to the rail like a baws and dont keep your skis too close to each other, otheriwse u might get flipped out. Keep your weight on ur legs and afterbang the shit out of it!
Go up to the rail feet shoulder width apart. Look at the end of the rail, pop just as your toes reach the lip of the jump. Obviously turn 90 degrees and with the rail directly under your feet.
PRACTICE
Once you get it, you will progress to be the biggest steeze master its not even funny how gnarly you will be at skiing.
