This weekend my friend went to a soccer tournament in eastern washington, and they were involved in an accident. My friends dad passed away, and my friend was taken to the hospital, but I am not sure how he is doing. I was wondering if any of you had advice as to how to talk to my friend when he recovers and how to help him cope with this enourmous loss. Thank you for your help.

Dude that sucks. I couldnt imagine how I would talk to my friend. Probobly just ask him what he is thinking about it. Or maybe talk about skiing to get his mind of of it

never say 'i know what you mean, or i feel your pain' because honestly, you dont. just tell him that you could never feel what he feels, but you wish you could, and that he can always talk to you, no matter what hour. just let him know that your there for him. just let him cry on your shoulder, and be the best friend you could. when my friend's little baby brother died, i gave him a hug and he just cried on my shoulder, cause he needed to, and then we got the whole class to go to the funeral and just do whatever we could to make life easier: make meals, clean their house, and just be there

my best friend's dad passed away in a ski accident a few years ago. I had no idea how to react, so I just made sure I was there for her whenever she needed me. I tried to just go along with whatever she wanted to do, but pretty soon I realized she was just too shocked to be able to think about anything else. Looking back, I'm not even sure what I did or what I said to her, but the important thing is just to be there for him, he'll recognize that and he'll be grateful.

I would try talking to Smokin_Skier, as his father just passed away. Perhaps he could help you on this touchy subject.
