Youd be fine just check the weather and make sure its not going to be ass bag cold. and plan it rite we wouldnt want you to be the kid who froze mid bong rip in a ski shack because thats some pompeii shit
Done it, it's hella fun! Make sure your sleeping bag is warm enough, and bring a tarp and a sleeping pad. Pad is essential to staying warm so you're not laying directly on the cold ground or snow, and you can wrap the whole package–sleeping bag, pad, and you- in the tarp to stay dry.
Building a fire is a great idea too, but you probably want to do that outside the shack unless you've got some good ventilation figured out. When we overnighted in our smoke shack, the chimney didn't work and we smoked ourselves out for a while (insert 'smoke shack' jokes here).
Liquor is also essential, I recommend whiskey. And candles, and good buds.
Ha yes ive done this in the summer but had some problem 1 they put in a bench in early summer so it wasn't big enough for a friend am me to both fit in 2 it started raining and the hut wasn't water proof so we hiked down the mountain at like 10 and found an open 1 person snow cat to sleep in for the night.
As long as you are not stupid, you probably won't kill yourself. That said, might be a good idea to be in a place where you can quickly get to a car or warm place. I have been out down to -20, it was cold, but we were kinda prepared. It was better than the freek snowstorm and 50 mph winds in Manitoba in May, when we had hardly any cold weather gear.
Most likely you will just learn that the cold hurts, and maybe learn a bit about what your body can take. Have fun with it. Bring friends, make a fire roast some food.
dig a snowcave. a single candle will keep you warm all night if you cover the entrance with a jacket or some piece of outerwear. me and a friend did it 2 seasons ago and it was great. we had 1 candle burning all night + the warmth everytime from the flame when we sparked the lighter for a smoke. we slept on a tarp in the cave and had sleeping bags. id estimate it was prolly around 20-25 all night. not too chilly. so it wasnt bad.
Definitely bring something warm. I did this back in October '10 and believe me it was fucking freezing up there. We spontaneously decided to stay up there while hiking one night. It couldn't have been much below freezing, but it was the coldest I have ever been in my life.
I have slept in snow caves about 5 times now its great go onto tgr for some tips on staying warm in those, it cant be much different then a smoke shack
if you have one bring a small camp stove, so can heat and cook stuff obviously, but also before you go to bed boil some water and put it into a nalgene water bottle and keep it in your sleeping bag with you...an easy way to add some extra warmth
