Ghetto brake rig

i recently broke a brake off my "binder". There an older binding Rossi Axial 2? no where in my small town (girdwood) has a brake for me out of their parts bin. kind of dreading ordering a new brake online. my question, has anyone ever rigged some leash system and some kind of insert to secure the fit of the boot in the binding. im thinking some cardboard under the heel with a leash connected to my boot? any body have any ideas to buy me some time while i figure out how to get a real brake?

Bad idea. I would only use them for the water ramps, because if you spin/flip and your ski pops off, it's going to be stuck to your boot and go all willy-nilly.

tele riders use them, and they're not a bad idea for pow, so there's less chance of burying your ski.

only if their parents are asshole lawyers. besides, what could they sue me for? a pair of skis with no breaks and about 100 dollars? it wouldnt be worth their time

medical bills, negligence..the list goes on. Its unfortunate that we live in a country with so many frivolous lawsuits, but its a very legitimate possibility, one which you should not leave yourself open too.

I find it surprising that World Cup wasn't able to fix you up. They've saved my ass so many times when it comes to bindings...the other week they practically took apart, fixed, then reassembled a pair of FKS 155s for me. Worst case scenario: they can order the part for you.

Avoid the leash at all costs unless you like torn snowpants and stitches.

wow thanks asshole. i just had a simple question about my binding. Thanks for going the extra distance and criticizing everyone that lives in Alaska, i could do the same and say something stupid about Utah and Mormons but i wont because that's just silly.

I'm a lift operator, i am well aware of the consequences of a loose ski striking someone. i would never ride without brakes. But would deff consider some VERY secure leash system in the meantime of me getting an actual brake. thanks dudes

Leashes are fine, as long as you have something to prevent a runaway.

think about losing your ski, it bombing down the hill, and hitting a little kid in the face. im pretty sure the guilt is gonna outweigh the damage to your wallet.

I think its a terrible idea, I'd say your ski tomahawking a hitting someone or even loosing it is better then yard saleing down a steep run getting battered by your own skis. or falling near some one and then swinging ur sharp edged numbchucks at their face I dunno I'd say figure something out besides a leash sure it could work but not really unsafe

ya people can definitely get in lots of trouble without brakes if a ski hits someone. Its actually against the law in CO to get on a lift without proper brakes. And buddy of mine had his ski go off and hit someone in the back and almost got his ass kicked.
But I always used a strong thick lanyard, knotted through my boot buckle, then through the heel piece of my binding, Boots SPK's Binders- Head mojo
