Whos going next year?!  possible roommate? i dont want to be stuck with some tool.

Also if you go there what are the fraternities like? would dorms be better or worse?

as a student of the U, i will tell you that my only complaint with the school is the financial aid department. granted i had a very difficult situation going on, but they will nitpick the hell out of you. get started with the paperwork as soon as possible. but its very worth it. you'll love it out here.

definitely do the dorms freshman year, best way to meet people then you can move off campus with the kids you met your first year

Think I'm gonna be going either there or U of Oregon next year (sco ducks). Would be doing pre-med but majoring in either bio or bioengineering, would love to room with someone of similar major that's a skier

I looked into CU until I found out that tuition for out of state was $38k. It would be an awesome school but thats too damn much for me.

I applied to UofU and if I go to a college out west its either going to be that or Montana State.

Yeah, it's a highly ranked program at the U. Just not sure if I wanna bother with all of the statics/dynamics/physics though haha.

in and committed. Super Super stoked to get out there. As of right now i've got two possible room mates but they both might fall through. Im not joining a frat, from what ive seen it seems to fuck with your grades a lot and more importantly generally lead to less skiing which is my #1 priority but who knows. Go Utes

yeah to be honest the physics is really the only problem, and it looks like the U is about to replace a lot of their undergrad profs so you may luck out and get a new batch that is better than the shitty ones we have right now

My god is it ever a huge help...

Also, Pell grants and such are HUUUGE. I got 5500 off my shit last year and was fucking PUMPed.

cu is a better school, has a waaaaay better campus, and boulder is way more fun than salt lake city...but the skiing in utah is better. that being said, go to cu.

You should move out here. Buy a road bike and a nice pair of hiking shoes and the fall can be a ton of fun.
And the winters are pretty rad too.

I am almost 100% going now! Just got my Honors at Entrance Scholarship letter in the mail today and couldn't be more stoked! Up to 4 years (Or baccalaureate degree whichever comes first)18 hours per semester tuition paid in full!

I didn't apply but if you live outside of Utah then you have to fillout an online application for general freshmen scholarships by feb. 1st.

My GPA (4.0 scale) is 3.993 and I got a 31 on the ACT.

The scholarship covers full tuition for 4 years but doesn't cover books. It also covers $1600 a semester for on-campus housing.

I know a ton of kids who take classes at SLCC and the transfer process is very easy. I know a few kids who did exactly what you are, going to SLCC for a year or two then transferring.

Alright well I'm out of state and I just submitted the general scholarship app the other day so hopefully I'll be getting an email like that soon since I'm sitting with a 3.9 GPA as well but a 33 ACT. I thought that they waited until after that February 1st date before they handed out any scholarships at all though.

So far I'm 99% positive I'll be at the U next year staying in the brand new honors housing.

A lot of kids pay tuition with student loans, which would easily supply 10k a semester if you needed it, "spoon fed" seems a little extreme here. If someones parents are able to put them through college without any debt, thats a very special gift. Me being one of those people, I am very grateful my parents were able to help with my college tuition and now I am able to take out student loans for graduate school. Unless someone is being ignorant and/or ungrateful about their parents paying for their college, there is no reason to lash out at them.

HA college is not real life. Closer than high school, but still not real life.

Also, OP and others, don't totally disregard fraternities right off the bat. Obviously there is a stereotype there for a reason, but as will all stereotypes, there are exceptions to the rules. I was a guy that was 100% positive I would never join a fraternity, cuz all those guys are just douchey assholes that only care about boozing up women and wearing boat shoes with flat brim snap backs. But when I got to school, I met some really awesome guys (who happened to be in a fraternity), and just from hanging out with them and realizing that they weren't at all what I thought "frat guys" were like, I ended up joining, and it's absolutely the best decision I've made in my life.

That said, I still would probably not join 90% of fraternities. But don't shove greek life by the wayside just because of stereotypes. Chances are, you'd probably actually get along well with a lot of frat guys. If you have any interest at all, just check it out. If it's not for you, it's not for you, and that's great. But if it is for you, and you don't take a peek, you could be passing by the best opportunity of your life.

/touching advice on life and stuff.

Ok here we go I will give you the lowdown. Come to Utah. Don't join a frat, the frat kids are ASSHOLES here absolutely NO ONE likes them and they are not conducive to skiing at all. Second off dorms are the shit!!!!! They are soooo fun, Gateway is easily the best, easy to party in and close to food but get corner room. Find a cool roommate not a idiotic one like mine used to be.
