Anyone have a metal detector or something to find a GoPro

Hey everyone, I lost my new Gopro 2 at Stevens today and was wondering if anyone new of a way for me to find it. I looked for awhile, then had ski patrol help with a recco, but the guy didnt have much time so he just went through quickly (didnt find it).

If anyone has any advice or tools on how I can get it back, it would be much appreciated.

Pretty much the only way. It's super finicky and a pain in the ass. It may take hours to find it withy the recco.

Also Thomas ski patrol tried for a little bit with recco and no luck....might just have to wait until the snow melts.

Think of Recco as a radar system. It sends out a signal, that will be bounced back by the reflector. If you pull one of the reflectors off some of your gear, go ahead you don't really need them, you will see that it is essentially juts a lot of highly conductive metal. The circuitry in a GoPro should be dense enough to reflect the Recco signal. Same as a phone, which of on, may produce an interfeering signal; I don't know that much about it.

Basically, any sort of circuitry creates the harmonic that a Recco picks up. However, actual Recco tags give a much larger signal, so they're way easier to find.

Because it's not much circuitry, a Gopro is a little difficult. That said, it can and has been done. Some of you might remember that we found mine in Grace Lakes last year.

The largest question is how much is going on for patrol, and what sort of time they have to do a proper search with the Recco. Obviously, they can't drop what they're doing every time someone loses a phone or camera.

I'll do what I can.

Big takeaway: glue a Recco reflector onto your important gear. Super easy to find.
