Last season, a certain unnamed mountain, say sunshine village, fired several ski patrollers for kicking the owners son out of an avalanche area. This season, when hiring staff they refused to hire anyone who was friends with these patrollers on facebook. This in my opinion is completely ridiculous, any other hills have similar problems?
"at-will employment is a doctrine of american law"
Sunshine is in Alberta, Canada.
Freedom of Association which is constitutionally entrenched by our Charter of Rights and Freedoms dictates that we should be free to associate with whomever we want. Hence, sunshine's decision is a violation of the constitution.
One of the few times where I'm happy my hill is unionized. Job protection.
Well, honestly, I don't even work for the hill, but it would suck to loose your job because of who you're friends with on Facebook. I never really did like Sunshine.
