Im in the market for new boots lately as I have been in the process of updating my whole set up. While searching around for new boots I found a local ad for a pair of Raichle Flexons. So this got me wondering what is the weight difference between OG flexons and full tilts? I know that the old flexons sometimes used a stiffer plastic, but does that make them weigh more?
Negligible. Biggest thing to check is that the boots have been looked after correctly - kept in a regulated temperature environment. Check that the plastic is still glossy and try to bend it with your hands. Other than that go ahead because i have some Raichle flexon's brand new just spent 10 years in a box in a storage room, and they work amazingly well. The liners are a bit shit but get some intuitions and a footbed and you will have saved a hell of a lot on brand new full tilts.
On top of what the previous post said, as that is good info as the flexon liners are shit and you will definitely need a footbed, There a tad bit heavier than the full tilt boots are. I have been skiing flexons for a while now and just upgraded to some Full Tilts only because i got a deal on some with beds and the intuitions. Get the flexons if it will be cheaper than full tilts, but make sure you get a new liner and bed so take that money into account (200ish bucks)
the plastic of the boot AND buckles is the key thing to check, make sure it doesnt appear to be "dusting" or dull in colour like someone mentioned above. The plastic needs to have its elasticity in order for it to perform properly and safely.
Considering you will likely need new liners anyways, i'd just check online for a good deal on FT's as the hassle and safety aspects wouldn't be a problem anymore since the plastic isnt decades old :P
I do agree with this. with my old flexons it just seemed outrageous to spend 190 on liners and them 50 on the footboard for boots that are probably only worth 60-80 bucks. just hunt for a good deal online or get hooked up buy a fellow NS'er
This. Plastics age, and you really need to be careful with older boots. Frozen old plastic doesn't just crack, it shatters... so really be careful when buying old, used boots.
