White areas on bottom of skis? HELP

alright so i just got some brand new k2 domains

got the mounted and hot waxed

rode it 2 days and now on the bottom where the design is there are white marks almost as if it is dry?

what could this be from? helpp

Until you get a base grind and hot wax they will just keep on getting slower and slower and won't hold any wax you try to put on.

Ok pump the friggin brakes! You said they're brand new right? There is no friggin way in hell you need a base grind. No way. Go back to the shop and tell them to fix it or replace your skis. Watch them. If they do a base grind or attempt to do one you demand new skis immediately. Friggin dumbasses tellin you to base grind a brand new ski. Facepalm!

most likely op just took the skis out on the hill on the first day with 0 base prep. Shipping wax doesnt cut it, and skis need to be saturated with wax before touching snow. I personally do 8-10 Hot waxes on my skis before touching snow.

But OP,  the white should scrape right off with a scraper.  It is most likely residual wax.  My K2 bases are much worse than yours after 12 or so days of riding, but it comes right off.  Just scrape them and rewax them.  If there are no scratches, gouges, or coreshots in your base then no grinding should be necessary.  There is no need to compromise the integrity of your bases in case you do hit some rocks. Your skis are completely fine.

Shipping wax? Do you mean factory wax? As in the best absorption your ski will ever get before a base grind wax? Maybe I missed something over the last few years but skis are still shipped with a factory wax right?

Think you've already gotten the best advice in the beginning. Take them back to where you bought them. Kindly ask "WTF?". If they have to do anything outside of a new wax, demand a new set....kindly. Done.

What has happened is the friction between your bases and the snow has accually dried out and melted the base.

--->a ski base has little grooves called "Structure."  the structure helps the ski slide quicker, there are even differnt patterns for differnt snow packs.

what has happend to your ski is the friction between your base and the snow has litterally melted togeather the grooves on your base causing it to be super sticky, and even if you soak your bases with wax in a hot box, it wont absorb the wax very well because of the burn.

you need to get a belt grind to flatten the base back out, then a stone grind to re-structure the base.  This will cause the wax to better be abzorbed into the base.

get a grind and wax...but you could also do this..(happened to me last year)...wax them urself but after scraping the skis apply another layer or 2 of wax to the edges...the white is from a lack of wax.this happens when the base is burn it is hard for the base to obsorb wax..so if you really work the wax in on the edges multiple times you should be fine. thats what i did..you probably feel it sticking when ur rideing right??? well once the wax is absorbed by the base the white will go away and you shall stick no more !

you should wax your skis every 4 times you ski....especially so early in the season man made snow has very hard ice crystals, resulting in even more friction. Also, you should have waxed them before you took them out on the first day on the hill. Factory wax does not cut it. Like i said before, you should hot wax a ski 6 times before it touches snow.

i did wax them before i went out

i just bought a iron and wax so do u recomend to scrape it off then wax a couple times or what?

scrape it off as best you can, then saturate the base with wax. Do a buncha hot scrapes as well as regular hot wax. I still reccomend getting a base grind to get all this shitty base off your ski, but its your call.
