Tips for Skiing Whistler

Alright, I'm going to Whistler Blackcomb for 4 days in February and I need help with....

Where to ski: I've never been to a big mountain before as I live in Ontario. I'm not interested in skiing park cause that's all there is to do in Ontario. I want to ski some fresh snow and glades and all that. I don't know how it works so could someone give me some advice on where to ski, what runs etc.

Skis: I'm renting skis but not sure what to get, Options are Rossi S3's, Salomon Rocker2s or Possibly Atomic blogs. What would be best for what I plan on skiing?

Whistler/Blackcomb is huge. Short answer: Crystal Chair on Blackcomb for trees, Peak Chair on Whistler for alpine bowls, big cliffs and showboating Spanky's Ladder on Blackcomb for kinda the same terrain you will see off the Peak chair, but not as much of a showboating scene. There's goods everywhere though, don't be afraid to explore.

the bottom of the mountain isn't really something to write home about though. mellow groomers full of inexperienced skiers going slow with big fences and slow patrol every 200M being all serious like. Besides, it's usually raining down at that elevation anyways. I much prefer to relax in the gondola and reflect on the day.

For me 7th Heaven area on Blackcomb is one of the best parts, and the Harmony/Symphony bowl on Whistler. Spanky's Ladder up Blackcomb is worth checking out if you want a huge steep bowl. It's a short hike but well worth it.

Blackcomb has more of a consistent face; Whistler, on the other hand, is a bit trickier to navigate if you're not familiar and don't have a guide.

It's probably worth it to check out the mountains on Google Earth, just to familiarize yourself with what is where.

Don't do the freshtracks breakfast.

If it snows overnight, I would go with Blackcomb.

If it snowed in the past couple days I would go with Whistler, and hit up the trees there. Whistler has significantly more tree skiing accessible from the lifts than Blackcomb, and I find pow lasts longer there.

Not done it myself but I've heard from guys who've stayed in the Hôtel du Parking that they don't always check the lots which are further away. I don't know if they're anal about it if they do find you though.

No just park in the regular old parking lot. I think that lot 5 you don't have to pay for parking, so go there.

wait in line for te peak chair if there is pow hit air jordan and ski kaibers or kaivers however its said theres lots of gnarly shit out there and u porbably wont find any of it
