Hey NS, just got a question regarding flying with your skis.
I'm flying United Airlines out of Vancouver to Denver with an Armada Anchorage bag measuring 79" x 15" x 8" (102 total linear inches). On United's website regarding checking baggage containing skis it reads:
"Up to 2 pairs of snow skis and associated equipment in 1 bag and 1 ski boot bag (Note: If ski boot bag contains other items in addition to or in place of boots, it will be subject to applicable baggage fees or excess baggage fees.)
1 set of ski equipment is allowed in place of one checked bag."
But on their oversize baggage section it reads:
"Any checked bag with a single dimension more than 62 inches (157 cm) will not be accepted.
Any checked bag that is more than 115 linear inches (292 linear cm) will not be accepted."
So while my bag is under the 115 linear inches requirement, it far exceeds the 62 inches in one dimension requirement, (my bag is 79" long) as I'm sure almost anyones skis would.
I see/hear of people traveling with skis via plane all the time to ski destinations, (ie SLC, Denver, Vancouver) how do they do it? Will I have to resort to shipping my bag as a parcel via UPS or FedEx?
