Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think the biggest sham pulled in poltics is the labeling of people into conservative and liberal.
Most people would agree that Democrats are liberal and Republicans are conservative. But since when did the idea of socialized medicine become liberal. A few hundered years ago Adam Smith, a liberal economic philosopher, would not have agreed that was liberal. Nor would the massive size and power of the central government being pushed by the Democratic party. On social issues, it is true that Democrats tend to be more liberal and Republicans more conservative. But to classify one as a liberal, in my opinion, they must be an economic liberal and a social liberal. Giuliani and McCain come to mind if I had to pick a few well known people who personify this view. I hope they run in 08.
