well before everyone gets in here and rains on your parade for being a noob ill help ya out. first there are many factors to consider
There are many advanced programs and watered down programs. as far as just editing skiing clips you can put those to music in windows movie maker or imovie on a mac. however, if you want to actually edit and make things look pro status, look into final cut pro or adobe premiere cs5.5 or somethin like that.
i use final cut pro 7 and love it. i hate final cut x and haven't used adobe premiere but looks pretty good as well. it all really depends on your knowledge of editing and how much you want to put into it or learn it, but if your juts looking to throw together little edits with a few fancy transitions, imovie and windows movie maker can do that
