Lets hear your favorite 5 musicians from 1990 up to the present. They can be a rapper/rocker/vocalist or whatever you want.
Kurt Cobain of Nirvana
Christopher Wallace a.k.a The Notorious BIG
Maynard James Keenan of Tool
Andre Young a.k.a Dr.Dre
David Marchand a.k.a Davey Havock of AFI
Warning: If you are reading this then this warning is for you. Every word you read of this useless fine print is another second off your life. Don't you have other things to do? Is your life so empty that you honestly can't think of a better way to spend these moments? Or are you so impressed with authority that you give respect and credence to all who claim it? Do you read everything you're supposed to read? Do you think everything you're supposed to think? Buy what you're told you should want? Get out of your apartment. Meet a member of the opposite sex (or same sex if you prefer). Stop the excessive shopping and masturbation. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove you're alive. If you don't claim your humanity you will become a statistic.
You have been warned…

I think Dr Dre is the greatest rap producer in the world, and possibly to ever exist since rap is being folded into hip hop, and pop.
Kurt Cobain is on the of the most overrated musicians of all time, though he is good he would not make my top 5.
Instead of individual artists, i'm gonna go with bands.
1. Red Hot Chili Peppers- No contest, band is synonymous with our generation. We all remember watching Under a Bridge, and most of us love watching Cant Stop, not to mention everything in between.
2. Sloan-all of its none-hits. Download Same Old Flame for a real taste of canadian indie.
3. Matthew Good Band- most of his stuff is good, and a select few are totally fantastic.
4. Neil Young-Harvest Moon is the best album released in the 90's, and perhaps best song as well.
5. Oasis-simply put, i love this band.
Top Band of the 90's and beyond is OWNED by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
For artists-
1. Travis-Blink 182, the best drummer since bonham
2. Neil Young-still does really good songs into the 90's, and a very very good guitarist.
3. Matt Good-as mentioned above.
4. Sam Roberts-this guy is gonna be huge after his next album.
5. Saul Hudson-and his awesome comeback.

God, this is a sad comment on contemporary music... I'm going to agree with Matt Good, toss in Liam and Noel Gallagher, Tom York, and for good measure, Wynton Marsalis (despite his relative mainstreamness in comparison to... um... comparable artists). Top it off with Chris Martin.

good call on oasis. they are so good. i'm not sure about top 5, but they're up there for sure. cobain may be a bit overrated but there is no doubt in my mind that he is top 5. he started a fucking revolution - grunge. he pretty much ended the hair-metal fad of the 80s. i mean, what more do you want from the guy? i am a bit biased though, being from seattle

Top 5 MUSICIAN's...
1: Kurt Cobain; He might not've written the most complex songs, but his lyrics conveyed his feelings like nothing else and his melodies poured through his songs so naturally.
2: Bjork; She isn't the most popular musician but she is the most experimental and generally successful. He lyrics in many of her songs are pure sex, and her compositions are mindblowing. Who else would've released an album using music comprised almost entirly of the human voice?
3: Thom York; The man is a genious in his own right, with his tortured voice and abstract lyrics, he makes confusion sound really good. Although he's not fully responisible for his band's sound he pulls it together.
4: Anthony Kiedes; RCHP, I'll just say a bit more. He head's a band made up of his best friends, you can't go wrong... The only mistake that band ever made was Chad Navarro, and that only lasted a very short time.
5: Billy Corgan; Very emotional singer, and composed a long list of songs that could never be done justice by anyone else, that is if they were able to write them. His voice made the Smashing Pumpkins what they were, a great band with a great frontman...
The beyond can't really be said in terms of musicians because I've heard many living down here in San Diego, so I won't go into that... I think I pretty much repeated everyone else anyway, but I love music, I love writing and performing when I can there's nothing like it.

^You arent allowed to speak anymore, considering you put two of the members of NOFX in your list. Operation Ivy was pure excellence and Rancid, until recently, was one of the best punk bands around.
