Coldest you've used a PVC rail?

the guy at Home Harware said the PVC would shatter really easy in cold weather when i was making it. But i wanna jib it. It's like -10 outside so thats 14 F. so has anyone used a PVC rail in that cold?

I've never broken mine and I've used it far into the negatives. It does get brittle however as long as you have a good set up without a lot of give it should be fine

we used to have pvc pipes for our summer set up, but we jibbed them the other day, it was like -5 and they litteraly exploded, id be careful if i were you,you dont wanna get one of these motherfuckers in your chest

depends how big they are. like 1 inch diameter or less... yes they will break. but like 2-3 inch will be fine.

"find" one of those big turquoise 12 inch motherfuckers at your local construction site and bring it home. they never stick, and never break. the perfect jib.

these work the best, I made a rail with smaller pvc but always end up using the turquoise one

I have made so many different PVC rails over the years and I am in Minnesota/ North Dakota so it gets and stays extremely cold here most winters. I had two shot gun rails that were made out of 1 1/4 in pvc, that is the smallest I have used and it worked but in one season I had to replace two of the four pipes. I have one that is made of 3in pipe and that has lasted a number of years!! I also recently found some 5in PVC that was only like $6 for 10 feet (on sale) and it is nice to work with because I just build three independent legs and screw them into the pipe, and it is sturdy enough to hold. Saves a lot of time!

I bought some black PVC pipes and they didn't broke during winter but I heard the white one break during winter

I have a rail with 4 1 inch white PVC pipes and had 1 pipe break last season. Wasn't that bad to fix though. The pipe cracked right at the end when a snowboarder friend of mine hit it short and landed right on the edge.

i used to have a PVCjib in my backyard, was hitting it in about minus 20 celsius. took a 270 and the whole rail went straight to hell.

It's not really PVC, but we use ABS and it works great. I've used it down to -20 degrees Celsius.

There are different thicknesses of PVC, most of you that are having issues are probly using schedule 40 (commonly used for indoor plumbing), try some schedule 80. I work for a water well drilling company and we use schedule 80 going down the hole to the pump, so it can handle cold, all of my rails are made from schedule 80 1" PVC and ive never had an issue

whats that stuff called?? its something like pvc but it is supposed to be really good in the cold but i use my pvc in like -30 never cracked

schedule 80 is hard to find and expensive.  They don't sell it at most hardware stores like Home Depot/Lowes.  You have to go to a specialized plumbing hardware store.    That's where i got mine and i dished out over 50 dollars for a couple  20 foot lengths of pipe of scheduled 80.  But you're right, it's the best shit to buy and will withstand anything because it's industrial piping (thick as fuck).

see i never really thought about taking into consideration that schedule 80 is way more expensive, i get old used pieces for free from work
