How'd you get into skiing?

just curious. personally, my mom who doesnt ski was the first to take me to a mountain and ive been obsessed since.

my mom made me sign up for ski club in 5th grade... I was legitimately pissed off until I got skis on my feet. then Jonny Moseley did his 360 mute two days later on TV and I was HOOKED

My older cousin who I'd thought was really cool switched from snowboarding to skiing, so I wanted to be just like him and decided to switch over. Best decision of my life!

well i played sports my whole and when i got into college i wanted a new winter activity. i played hockey my whole life so the whole skiing concept came super easy to me. it took me a lot of time and runs on my first season but i was hitting rails and 3s off the big hits at my home mountain by the end of the season. so i've only been skiing a couple years but i really excelled at it.

im pretty sure this is a repost thread but whatever, i learned to ski through my school, got to uni after spending a lot of time rollerblading and threw myself into freeskiing, literally and its become my life.

switched from snowboarding this year, still love to snowboard but well happy that i've started skiing too. most of the people i know ski so it's just easier to hit the mountain on skis with them than a snowboard

My first took me to me to a mountain when I was two. And then when I was seven we moved to small ski-resort in deep north Sweden, and here there is literally nothing else to do.

When I was 21 my friends convinced me to give it another try (I tried it when I was like 18 but hated it).  I spent the next two or three years just sliding around like a gaper and getting hammered night skiing with friends or doing day trips. Then one day it took over my whole life like BLADOW and I have spent just about every day since working towards making myself the best skier I can be.

My grandma took me up to the small local hill when I was 5, sadly the hill is closed now and only used for weddings.

i went like once a year with my family growing up in NY and then saw some good kids hitting jumps and wanted to do that and then I saw the olympics where Jonny Moseley busted the mute 3 and then i was in, but then i skiboarded for a while cause they didn't really have twintip skis where i was, but then skiboarding wasn't cool so i got the line 1260's and then i eventually moved to colorado and skied a lot and now i don't ski as much but i just took my 2 yr old son for his first time a couple days ago, so it starts again...

skied as a kid, 3-7, whatever, maybe i liked it, i don't know. snowboarded 7-13, thought it was cool as fuck, liked being a snowboarder more than i actually liked snowboarding. saw a freeskiing vid on the tv at a shop at 14, thought it was pretty cool and different. convinced my dad (a skier) somehow to buy me some flyers even though i hadn't been on skis in 7 years, was pretty good from the get go, got hooked, and i've enjoyed skiing a little bit more every single year since then.

Started snowboarding for like 2 years, went to a Wal Mart one day to buy a snowboarding magazine, then I saw a Freeskier so I picked it up and started reading it and I was hooked forever. A month later I was watching tv and X Games skiing big air was on (the one when TJ did the dub 16) and a few months later went and bought myself skis and stuff and I am hooked.

It was bred into me I guess. My dad would take me in a backpack when he skied while I was a baby and I had skis on my feet about as soon as I could walk. Since then I don't think I've ever not enjoyed skiing.

My dad taught me starting when I was about 5 or so. Spent a season on the bunny slopes and after that just followed him everywhere at Squaw that he wanted to ride. I was a pretty fearless kid though, and was willing to ski anything. Still like riding with my old man today when he has time to join me :)

when i was about 5 years old, my older brother decided to start snowboarding. at that point i wanted to be just like, so i asked my parents if i could start snowboarding: of course they replied with a big "NO, its to dangerous". so then the closest thing to snowboarding was skiing. Then after straight lined every little run at my local hill, i decided to grab me some twin tips.

Same with me! except i wasn't as lucky to grow up skiing squaw like yourself. i always wanted to be as  good as my dad so i just forced myself to go down everything he did, even when i'd look down and scare the shit out of myself. i still have trouble keeping up with him, he completely rips for an old guy

i was about 4 and my dad took me out. i dont remember much, mostly my memory consists of sitting on the lift and eating pigs in a blanket. spending time with my dad is what really got me into it, i think.
