the reason i ride longer skis, is as follows:
-more base, faster, in the midwest, we milk every lil bit of speed we can
-more control, due to the longer edge. even with detuned edges underfoot, you still have alot more effective edge available.
-more pop, since you have more ski to work with, you can exert a larger load on the tips or tail, equalling more pop
-more stable, at speed, landing jumps, more ski equals more stability
and yes, i will argue that doing stuff on a bit longer skis looks better, and in some instances is harder. but 99 percent of the time, there are no problems. im 510, 165, and ride 183s (thought they were a tad short. as long as its not a beastly heavy ski, long has no drawbacks
