Old People in the Park

I just go back from little over a week at Breck. If you've been there this season, you'll know that there isn't much snow and Park Lane is packed (or at least every time I've checked it out)... Thing is, this is the first time that I've actually seen older people hitting some features yet a lot of them are kind of oblivious to things.

For example, I went for a 540 but I caught an edge while on the jump (stupid mistake, I know). My friend said it was obvious I was gonna eat shit, and he was right. Yet out of nowhere, 2-3 seconds after I land some guy easily 40 years old straight airs the jump and almost stomps me, landing a few feet away from me.

I'm just sorta curious; has this happened to anyone else? I've never really seen oldies do this kinda stuff haha..

there was this one guy at buck last year near end season that was skiing across the knuckles of the jumps, i slammed into him so bad.

liek there was this one time i was going down the park like a thugggg with my XL sagaz suit and i was coming into this 100footer about to do a dub cork 12 like my hero, bobby brown. and all the sudden there was some old guy behind me. i stopped because i didnt want him to ruin the shot and i was like "yooo manggg you need to peaceeee the fuck outta ma fuckin park or ill pop a cap in yo ass, you're too old for this parkkkk"

To the OP, I know exactly what you mean. I think it's because parks are a lot different than when those "old people" grew up (some of them didn't have parks at all until recent years). Parks have their own universally understood rules now, and most people are indeed oblivious to how it works out. Safety and courtesy are both important when it gets crowded though, so it's always a good idea to politely try to let someone know if they are getting dangerous.

Last year a group of skiers were standing on the 3rd jump in Freeway for about 5 minutes while we waited for them to move. When they didn't, we decided they must be hoping to watch us hit the jump and I went ahead and dropped in. As I'm going through the tranny they drop off the knuckle and I got that "I'm gonna die, or land on and kill a gaper" feeling. Way too close for comfort, a ski patroller actually asked them not to go through the park again after they saw the close call.

unless the guy waaaay overshot the jump there is no way he landed remotely close to where you were 2-3 seconds after you crashed...unless you gaped it up and knuckled so badly that you were still on the knuckle.

Generally, when there is a lineup for a jump line, someone drops every 4-5 seconds. this allows for enough clearance between riders so if the guy in front crashes, he slides down to the bottom before the next guy lands. dont like how crowded it was? dont go to Breck during christmas break, genius.

I'm not sure what this thread is supposed to be about, but a gaper in the park is a gaper regardless of age.

Anyhow, as far as actually hitting features goes I feel like I'm the oldest person I ever see hitting features at PC and I'm 32...Anyone know people who ride park regularly who are "old?"

it was way less crowded this year because of the lack of snow. also, he did say it was obvious that he was gonna whipe out from just looking at the top of the jump, so maybe the guy shoulda put 2 and 2 together when the other people didnt go for it.

not at YOUR risk, they can't. at killington, there has been a massive influx of people who have no park etiquette, and it really makes hitting the small jumps we have and doing tricks hard, when there could be a 6 year old and her whole family skiing across your landing at any time.

there is a 50 year old dude in squaw i met him spring 2010. He was hiking a flat down rail and doing swap 2 outs and such. Later we saw him doing rodeos in the biggest jump there. Dude kills it with steeze. I think aspen spora is his grandson or something. Anyone seen an edit of his? I've been looking all over.

That's inspiring no doubt.  

There's no doubt in my mind that some of you guys will still have a passion for park even after you're married, settled down with kids, and done college.  (some of you are already!)  Mr Huck *cough

With that said, in 15 - 20 years we'll definitely be seeing 40 to 50 year olds killing the park.  maybe even older.  I mean just look at the spike in freestlyle skiing popularity. 

Who's up for lapping the "Senior Citizens" park  ?
