What to expect from a sponsorship

Hey guys, I was just wondering if any one could give me some info on what I can expect once I get sponsored. NOT about how to get sponsor

You may get free kneepads to continue servicing your sponsors. Otherwise, you might get a box at your door occasionally with some shit in it. And proforms =/= sponsorship.

it could range from starting on wholesale or getting free setups. all depending on the brand/rep and your skill/exposure

it generally starts off slow with bigger sponsors,maybe starting on wholesale then working your way up as you prove yourself as a skier and what you can do for the brand (repping the merch and gaining exposure/competing ). Some reps don't just give free things away to kids so you need to gain trust and show your passionate for the brand and work through having a year or 2 on wholesale.

First few sponsors don't expect much, they might give you a little money in exchange for some PR stuff, but more or less it'll be really small stuff.

Try to avoid any extraneous binding contracts, no matter how good they seem at the time. eg: ' Wear ONLY so-and-so-inc outerwear for ALL competitions this year in exchange for 500$' , if you get popular and end up competing more at more important comps they will get way better PR for the same price

Finally expect to have to market the hell out of yourself. You should make a contact out of a representative within the sponsoring company and solely use them in regards to getting sponsored for anything. For every thing you get out of them you will have to continue to convince them its worth their time/money to continue to sponsor you. Need a new pair of skis? Expect to have to prove to them that you put in hours of research to determine the best possible option and demonstrate why. It will be an uphill battle for every little bit you get.

Forgot to say that a good/close relationship with smaller company is way more valuable than a loose relationship with a larger company (in the beginning at least)

Example: Oakley doesn't care if your skis broke and you need new ones, they gave you those goggs and expect you to rep them no matter what. Mikes County ski and board shop on the other hand? They'll help you pick out new skis and make sure you get the best deal possible on them.

Source: I used to be lightly-sponsored for Martial Arts competitions. Everlast gave me free shit-tier gloves once a year (~$30). Compare that to when I explained to the local shop which got me a custom mouthguard (150$+ ) after I chipped a tooth during a match.

ps. Used Oakley as an example, I'm not sure if/how they sponsor but I love the company, wasn't trying to say anything bad about them.

most am's that just start out get like $3,000-$4,000 dollars depending on how many dubs they can do but i heard willem collier gets like $8,000 from ON3P

Just backing this up with some hard facts, every double flip variation gets you an extra $5k from your sponsors, and rightside is an extra 2K bonus on top of that.

Exchanging long awkward hugs with Willem = priceless.

Let’s say you’re an AM and it’s your first time being sponsored and your sponsored by a ski company, you would probably get 1 or 2 pairs of skis every year but probably not more.

At least if it works the same as in ski racing cause my sister was sponsored by Fischer for 3 years and that’s about all she got with a pair of boots and bindings.

expect the soul of skiing to be gone and your enjoyment from the sport owned by someone/something else. its not your sport anymore. the industry owns you. fuck sponsors.
