Alright so this year for christmas I asked for a lot of skiing stuff. I got this pimp under armor balaclava, some fresh dakine mittens, and a couple of tall tees/a really tall hoodie. as i tried on the hoodie, which goes down to my kneecaps, my grandparents and aunt and uncle were like wow, lisa (my mom), you must have made a mistake with the size of that sweat shirt, it is huge. and i was like no this is the size i wanted. long story short i ended up explaining free skiing and all the style and culture that comes with it to my whole family for like 15 minutes and they still didn't understand. quote of the day from my uncle, "don't they still have moguls that you can you go down?" so the question is, how much does your family know about our world of free skiing?
my parents knowledge of free skiing is tanner hall breaking his ankles over chads gap...I'm pretty sure they showed that video to every co-worker/friend when I showed it to them.
My mother and father think I am absolutely ridiculous for wearing XL pants... basically anything bigger than a medium is just wayyy too big. Haha they'll never understand.
id say my parents know a fair amount. my dad will try a box every now and again and knows what afterbang is, and my mom...er...santa put a saga sticker pack in my stocking this year.
my parents are pretty with it. my dad skied his whole life, and both my parents are really involved in what I do. I'm lucky, and I do my best to educate them. hell, one time my dad mounted my skis anderson without me saying anything or even knowing he was doing it, he measured and mounted at dead center.
my dad is a crazy good skier, rips everything except park, but he's not really up on the actual scene of skiing. he just kind of gets out there and does it. i'm pretty sure he thinks simon dumont is the only pro though. every time we go into oakley he asks if i "want any simon dumont stuff"......oh jeez. love him for trying though!
My Dad knows a bit about park but he loves the backcountry and the mountaineering aspects of it, he's the reason I'm getting into Tele. Parents have skied a good portion of their lives but never really noticed the whole free skiing thing.
My Dad just loves great groomed runs and fun days, which makes him of of the best people to ski with.
My mom understands the big clothes look, she really just hopes im safe. My dad on the other hand knows quite a bit. When i was out skiing he texted me to tell me about wallisch's run in which he said "wallisch won slope, he stomped everything and he did switch double rodeo and unnat switch dub rodeo. I liked Gun Kenworthys run better" He knows what the tricks are
anytime i'm about to go skiing he tells me "i dont want to have to wipe your ass when you get paralized SO BE FUCKING CAREFUL" he doesn't know that i'm even a freeskier. If he did i'd have to wipe HIS ass
haha i was watching dew tour at the mountain and my dad texted me,"watching tom wallisch at dew tour today. awesome, but whats with the bird thing???" my dad knows a little bit but not very much
I'm honestly curious why you just started posting like gangbusters like 3 months ago?
It seems like you, wilgums, and jhendrix just totally hold down the idiot brigade around here, all of you started posting right around the same time. Somehow all three stay somewhat...relevant? though. Its a fucking trip.
i told my mom i was doing a rail jam, and she replied, not sure what that is but good luck! my families big in skiing but they know nothing about freeskiing
my mom and dad both ski, theyre kind of gapers, but they occasionally get up to the hill and can keep up with me and my brothers when we take a family run or two. my mom and dad kinda get the freeski scene like tall tees and baggy pants and they both know who tom wallisch is and my mom sometimes tries to use "steezy" in sentences and its just embarrassing haha. only problem is they always show up to the contests i enter and they get as close as they can to the skiing and yell my name when im tryin tricks and stuff and half the time they are yelling for a different kid. not a big deal though theyre really supportive and got me into skiing when i was 3
