So today I broke my FKS's brake plate (Pictures)

So today I came out of one of my skis when I caught an edge. When I went to put the ski back on I realized there was no brake plate on the binding. I then continued to look for it but couldn't find it. I can still get into the bindings but the brakes are sorta weird. They go up when my boot is in but they aren't very stable so sometimes when I am riding switch the brake will catch on the snow. Also, when I'm out of the ski the brakes have no force to push them down so if I eject the one ski just goes down the mount.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what I should do. Should I just take out the brakes? Try to see if I can get a new one? Anyone known where I could get a new one? Any other suggestions?
I thought these were supposed to be some of the best bindings one could buy.

They are, but they have one of the worst brake designs on any binding.

Alright so now i know the brake design isn't good can we get to the real problem? YEs they are ski-able.

email rossi, im pretty sure you can buy a new baseplate and brake for like 40$, but dont quote me on that

try to attach something to the brake so that when you step on it with your boot it pushes it down more

had something like this kinda happen to my old pair, was able to glue on a small chunk of wood to it so that it would still work

dont think iv ever seen this happen to fks though

now they make you send them the whole heel since it's a liability to dismantle the heel assembly yourself. they'll change the brakes for you but it's a pain in the ass to have to send it to them especially when you can do it yourself just as well if not better than any of the techs there

And that is reason #1 why I do not have FKS's. What a joke having to send the whole heal piece to Rossi for repair. You could wrap a bunch of duct tape around the bar so the boot presses down on the brakes & gets them up.

i find them the easiest to bend of all other brakes since once you take them out they're easy to stick in a vise and the metal is easily bendable and rarely breaks. you just have to get comfortable taking apart the heel but once you do it's all very simple

Mine brakes broke 3 times
luckily i had a set of OG fks from like 1972, with the same brakes. so i had to bend those aswell.

Broke one of the arms off, so now i only have one brake on one of my skis. oh well

you can bend salomons without even removing them from the binding once they are mounted on a ski

I mean you can with the FKS too; not the best for the housing but I know a bunch of shops who mount first then bend.

i always mount first then bend mine with the fks turntable heelpiece. this way you can't break the arm or housing of the binding?

learned the hard way but this has been the best way for me to do it with fks bindings. wouldn't recommend doing it with other bindings though.
