4 broken heel pieces in 2 years, need helpp

Okay, so a bit of history, when i was 15 i picked up snowboarding, had a blast, bought a board and shredded all next season, except one day, i used my dads skis to see if i liked skiing, and instantely knew i wanted to switch. Sold my board, bought skis for last season. Line invaders and marker 10.0, broke the heel piece completely into 3 pieces, bought look px team jib 12s or sometbing, broke them in a month, got free ones, broke that in a snowstorm we had in october in my friends backyard on a bad landing, put a different friends old binding on my skis, and i just cracked it the other day. 4 heel pieces in less than one and a half seasons, wtf? Im about to switch back to snowboarding. Now for my skiing, i know i just started, but i progressed rediculously fast, some kfeds, brittanys, a little unnat on rails, i can 7 and unnat 5 and i tried off axis a few times. So as you can guess, i beat the hell out of my stuff, mostly from failed attempts at tricks, but it's bound to happen. Even broke a helmet trying rodeos aha. Definately type 3+ skier, and 90% of my skiing is park skiing. My body is..im not fat, athletic i guess you could say, 5'11" and 185 pounds, 18 years old. And i ski a little mountain in Connecticut mostly, sometimes ill go to mount snow, but not often. So if you bothered to read this entire thing, i really need help finding a reliable, SUPER durable park binding, i can save up a littleto buy them, but id rather not pay tooo much. Any suggestions? Please and THANK YOU for any help, +k for any positive input/help

Get a binding with more metal in it. Fks or 916.

well px12s have shitty heal pieces.

Try fks14s
or p12s
both you should be able to find for under 100$ used somewhere.

Fks 140 is the same binding as the orange rossy but the black ones right? And my friend recommended salomon sth 14. And i have also been having problems with like ill pop out of my bindings but the heel puece is still up, like im coming out too early, what could that be?

That it is not set up correctly.

Like Ginko said, the more metal, the more durable the binding is, and more expensive. Check out the Salomon STH / Atomic FFG 16, Salomon 9-16, or Rossi FKS 140/180. If you can afford them, your problem will be solved.

Are the STH and FFG completely metal? Or are there actually like plastic bits that i can still break easily, and would i really need the 16s or could i get the 14s instead? And the 916s, those look really solid and completely metal, but 9 would be prolly the highest i want my DIN, and i heard you arent supposed to set your bindings that close to the min or max DIN rating for that binding?

The STH/FFG 16s are not all metal, only the 9-16 is. But the FFG 16 is what most of our athletes use as it has metal in all the right places without weighing 20 pounds like the 9-16.

You can be at minimum of the DIN range with no problem, as the spring has it's elasticity. Where you don't want to be is at the max of the DIN range since that means the spring is fully compressed and has no elasticity, which will give inconsistent release values.

Awesome! Thanks for the help haha, i was looking at salomon STH for a while, but i like the colors of the FFG more, so i might do that instead, because they are the same, but do i really need the 16 or could i use a 14 instead do you think?

The heel on both the 14 & 16 is the same construction, but the toe on the 16 uses a metal toe post and the 14 uses a plastic. I would go with the 16 for the durability.

Dont give up on skiing just because you are breaking equipment. Lower end markers will blow up on everyone and I learned that early on too. Like mentioned prior in this thread it appears that you could benefit greatly by using a binding with more metal in it. STH are good and would probably suit your needs in the 14 or 16 din catergory but I would strongly suggest fks or pivot. Marker griffons/jesters would work well too. When buying a new pair don't cheap out on a recreational plastic binding or you will get what you pay for. Drop a little more and you will dramatically see a difference. To put it in prospective I have bought several pairs of used fks/pivots and have never had an issue; Ive even seen them get run over by a car and be perfectly functionable.

So looking into this, I see all over the place that people tend to be in love with one or the other. Right now I'm stuck with the decision of FKS 140, and STH/FFG 16s, don't want pivots, I don't trust Look any more. I'm sort of leaning towards STH or FFG because i hate the boner binding design, just don't like it and it hurts if you land on it, but alot of people are saying that the FKS is the most durable thing in the world, except that the 140 has a plastic toe? Is that true?

just an fyi look and rossignol are the same bindings pivot 14 is equal to fks 140...I would look into the older fks155 which have a din range of 6-15 and have a metal toe no a plastic toe....Really the plastic toes is durable and it only sounds like you are having heal issues. The quote "boner" design is fool proof in that you really never can hit/land on it because the way it is. Dont get me wrong the salomon sth and ffg (also the same binding depending what you get) are great but I prefer the fks/pivots over them (personal preference). If not satisfied maybe through tyrolia bindings into the mix too

I know they were the same, i'm just weird and don't want anything to do with the company anymore, i'd do Rossi though, maybe. FKS155 i will look into, and i actually did land on the binding once, i landed wayyy far backseat and super heavy, only happened once thank god, had a very pinpoint bruise on my ass. and that makes sense about the toe piece, i have not ever actually had a problem with the toe piece on my looks, just the heels breaking and pre-releasing. i think i am just going to try and find some STH 16s or FFG 16s though, if it turns out to be impossible to find them, FKS is definately a solid backup.

You could always check TGR for salomons...they love the salomon drivers over there. Keep an eye out too they come up cheap online on occation; best of luck

the fks/ pivot bindings are the best out there.

my biggest regret is not putting them on my park skis, i went with px12 jibs which is still a good binding but no where near as good as those two.

they are expensive, i just bought p18's for 329, now that is the top of the line metal binding from look, no one needs an 18 din binding, but what the big deal about getting that binding was for me that it is metal, and will release differently then a plastic binding.

if i were you i would try and find the fks 15 on here or tgr if possible, that was a great binding that i wish they would bring back.


i also have heard great things about the sth/ffg (which are also the same binding, anyone know why companies share bindings?) i have never used them so i cant speak about them to much except for get the driver toe, that seams to be the big thing about them from everyone i have talked to.


just dont by markers.

i've got the head mojo 15's. they're mainly metal and they feel pretty bomb proof. but like everyone else has been saying, for the most part, the more metal the binding has the more durable it's going to be.

if you want something that wont ever break and is literally bomb proof, go with the sth 16 steels. they're expensive though.

bindings are ment to be ridden in the middle din as to not over tension the bindings. no matha fucka except for mcconkey has ridden an 18 din because i ride a 19 din! CLAIM!?

You need a pair of OLD Salmon 997 bindings. More metal in the toe/heel than an STH/FFG 16, and a DIN of 14.

The only problem is they aren't indemnified anymore.
