Snowbird

We're also going out from the 28th through the 2nd. I have talked to a few friends out there and I think its pretty much like everywhere else right now. The on piste stuff is supposedly pretty solid. The coverage off trail is spotty at best, but supposedly still good enough to ski (if you don't mind a rock or two).

They are calling for about 8 inches in the next 24 hours which will help a lot. Then there is a chance of another little digger coming down sometime late next week which could give a little more snow. All in all they think it will be pretty thin, but still should be a blast. Also, Alta is supposed to have a little more coverage than bird at the moment.

We'll probably do a day at Alta, a day at Snowbird, and then go screw around at PCMR. The park there is supposedly the best one around.

i went 3 days ago, not much snow...be prepared to hit some rocks if you go off the groomers. there is snow in the forecast today and tomorrow, about 5-8 inches, that will help but there will still be a lot of stuff to hit under the snow

This. Skied it Saturday.. unless youre on rock skis, do NOT venture off the groomers. I hit some decent snow under little cloud but my bases paid the price for it. The storm we're getting now will help but we still need a lot more.

Yeah, at least at Bird you can still get a ton of vert even skiing groomers from the top of the tram to the base. And along the way down there are a bunch of places on the cat track you can launch yourself. You can traverse right now into the lower part of the Cirque... you don't get the fun of the steep pitch from the top, but its at least something and its relatively safe from a coverage standpoint. You'll have fun, you just won't get the full experience of how ridiculous the Bird can be when fully open and covered in pow.

I don't think you'll be able to access this stuff in the next few weeks, but if by some miracle....

You can traverse the ridgeline off the tram to lower cirque. It doesn't have the super steep/mandatory cornice drops like Upper Cirque and is a pretty mellow pow field most of the way down. Glades are going to be off Gad 2 or Tiger Tail. There are rocks/cliffs everywhere... just be careful, like I said there probably won't be much cover in the next few weeks and there have already been an inordinate number of bad injuries at the 'Bird this year from people sending it into low-cover landings. Don't risk ruining your day/season.

Any thoughts on the Baldy traverse and all the shenanigans underneath that? Will it be open? Ski-able in poor coverage conditions?

Yeah if you actually have a good amount of snow explore thunder bowl a bunch lots of fun stuff as well as back side of the cirque above big emma and skier far right of the gad chutes. Finally the baldy area if you willing to hike/traverse a bunch is amazing on a pow day

people were traversing into it from Peruvian last weekend.. didn't see anyone hiking the shoulder (for good reason). Maybe on your rock skis being veeeeery careful and keeping your speed in check. So much rock in that area, I wouldn't chance it.
