I see a lot of "NEVER USE TWIXTOR OR DUBSTEP YOU WILL BURN IN HELL" on M&A, and the dubstep i understand, but what's so hateful about twixtor? is it not just mega slow-mo? sorry for being a complete n00b and not knowing this, i just dont understand...

There just isn't the need for that much slow-mo. It would just be better to conform it.

Because it's a cheap, corny, artificial effect that is largely used by beginners as a novelty. There are people who can use it tastefully, but they are so rare that it makes sense to just tell people not to do it.

I honestly don't mind twixtor if it is used properly, creatively and not overused. I was watching Knights of Mayhem on Nat Geo, while watching it they use a lot of slow mo and I mean a lot. Some of the shots are really cool but I feel like they overuse slow mo. So going back to twixtor, if someone is using it and using it to be creative then go for it. Its cheap and a good piece of software for cheap especially if you are on a tight budget.

^ That pretty much it. just because you can make a 5 second event last 30 doesn't mean you should. Used sparingly it's cool, but if you pile it on and the whole video is in MEGA MOOOOOO then it's kinda lame.

Adding onto what landis said, it causes major ghosting. Even in Michael Clarke's edits or After Dark, you can see some ghosting from the twixtor.

We can say whatever we want, but it doesn't change the fact that the Art of Flight is getting a crazy amount of praise considering 70% of the movie is super slow mo shots of helicopters - aka the same idea as Twixtor.

The issue isn't slow motion in itself (which is tasteful when used for short clips, not entire tricks). The issue is that Twixtor only works in specific scenarios. Noobs tend to overuse it because they don't notice the ghosting effects that would otherwise cause people not to use it.
