My lab partner for out final wrote this...
Day 1 - 12/5:
Today we got our sludge. Our sludge is mostly purple with a tint of brown. There are multiple solids in the bottom of the test tube. There are black rocks, purple rocks, pink rocks blue rocks and red rocks. There are also metal triangles and squares, both of which are malleable. We think these are zinc. We separated the in soluble solids first so we can distill the liquid tomorrow to get the soluble solids out. We had to think for a while on how to not spill any liquid while decanting.
Day 2- 12/6:
Today we started with distillation. The point of distillation was to seperate our pigments and souluble solids away from the liquids. When we seperated one tube had a clear liquid and the other had purple blue and a whitish colored solid left behind. we didnt have any problems distilling and now we are going to do some tests on one of our insoluble solids that we think is zinc. We mesured the area and weight and tested for malubility. we also scraped the soluble solid into a bowl.
Day 3: 12/7
Today we picked up where we left off yesterday! Joe was working on thw density while i worked on getting the soluble solid out the the tube (more distilling!!!) Here is an observation I made today: when our soluble solid is wet it is purple and when its dry it is blue. We also tested some properties on the little black rocks. While the distilling went by great we had a little miss funtion with the electrical tape on the tube but that didnt cause any problems. we only have a little bit of liquid left that needs distilling and were hoping to finish tommorow! Our neighbors test tube started on fire and we realized that we juust need to make sure there nis enough snow around our test tube so it doesent start on fire. We also almost burnt a hole through the bottom of our test tube.
Day 4:
12/8/11
Today we finished distillation. Right away we had our first problem of the day. when we were trying to pour our sludge into our distillation tube we spilt a little bit of our sludge. we dont think this will make a difference over all but we don’t have as much as we did when we started.
Day 5:
12/9/11
Were still distilling): we thought we were done and only had one liquid but we must check again. We have lots of density and properties to test!!! WE ARE NOW SUREEE WE ONLY HAVE ONE LIQUIDD(:: Monday we will do chromotography and test teh properties of the insoluble solids. A problem we had today was we accidentally got some water inbto our sludgeee. ): another problem was miss maddy lost two points tyoday for having her goggles on her head. BAD MADDY. Pretty much all we did today was putify our liquid and check to see how many we had with logger pro.
Day 6:
12/12/11
PURIFYING. TODAY WERE PURIFYING OUR LIQUID. Joe is also going to test some more properties and im gonna work on crystalizeing. (we shall correct spelling lator joe.) hehe. Kay so our soluble solid weighed .87 we took away tbe mass of he cup it was in to get the weight. the second time we weighed it it weighed .80 we are now looking for the volume. (im tierd.) When we did Chromotoography the only colors on our paper were blur and red. THAT MAKES SENSE THO BECAUSE BLUE AND RED = PURPLE!!!! We didnt habe any problems today. nothing. at. all. ITS TIME TO CLEAN UP. nothing really happneeddddd today. heh.
Day 7:
12/13/11
I feel like I say the same thing every single day. More purifying. We forgott to clean out the tube so we have to start over. I also accidentalluy pulled the tube off the gas nozle and the fire fell. Whoopsie....... we just started over. I must say its very difficult to light the lighter. but oh well. Yesterday I crystalized our soluble solid. WEVE GOT SO MUCH DENSITY TO DO. Kay were testing properties. I THINK OUR SOLUBELE SOLID FEELS LIKE MOON SAND. nice description, eh?
Day 8:
12/14/11
Soooooooooooooooooooo our liquid blew up. Like big time. we had the fire going then BAM the cork flew out. I think thats a sign telling us to STOP DISTILLING YOU ONLY GOT ONE LIQUID. Whatever though we NEED to keep purifying. We almost finished purifying. After we finish that all we have to do is test the properties of all our substances. we need to do this so we can figurer out the density and stuff
Day 9:
12/15/11
NO TIME TO TALK. were intensly working on our sheet today. All of our solids smell like alcohol. its giing me a headach. We have two more days of sludge left. Were almost done and havent had to come in late or early once!(: Im going to test the conductivity of all our stuff today.
Day 10:
12/16/11
LAST DAY OF SLUDDGGGGGGGGGGE. I’m so happy were almost done. all we have to do today is check for conductivity!!!(: We have a orchestra concert today so we have to join 4th hour. tis weird. too bad the conductivity doesnt wanna work for me. ): oh well. we willl finish in time!

tldr; Just read one entry, it will give you an okay idea. but theyre all pretty good
and no, i do not talk like this ever
