GEAR HEADS!! Lancer OZ swap

And was wondering how many hours I would be looking to swap it into my 2002 lancer oz.

I am not a mechanic but have friends who can pull it off. I have read that you need to fabricate an engine mount but people haven't consistently said that.

SO basically I would like to know how many hours you think it would take and whether you think it would work at all.

Also, I am really dumb, but wouldn't I need a new drive train as well being that my oz lancer is FWD.

this is going to be harder than what your are capable of if you are asking newschoolers for help on a project like this and also your swap and drivetrain will cost far more than your car.

you can get a used evo with higher mileage for pretty cheap now, just get one and have the motor rebuilt.

If you have no idea what you're doing, it would be best to have someone who has done it before do it, and you watch/help and be involved.

An engine swap is really fucking difficult.

So from what I have read now 4g63t build is beyond overkill and requires way too much custom fabrication.

So option 2: ??? There are a lot of engines to choose from, I just want an engine with more to start with, turbo included would be nice. But don't know which would agree with my car the best.

I did find this though. Maybe you guys think it is more practical

I just would like a sportier motor to start with. I jumped into the OP without doing enough research.

I think my overall goal for this car is looks with a decent engine. The 2.0l just doesn't have the capabilities to handle very much. I just want an engine to compliment the stance we are giving it.

that engine with f5m42 transmission. I think it could be relatively inexpensive and would give me an engine that can handle a turbo down the road.

Probably a much better option but I bought the oz so that I could have the oz. I love the trim, minus the front bumper.

Wait till the sexy lady is sitting pretty.

SO I ran upon a little fact while reading the thread I posted above.


Lancer is about 330 pounds lighter than an eclipse. WEIGHT RATIO FTW!!!

The guy Im going off of did everything for 1500. If I needed to pay for labor, no more than 700 extra I would say. But this seems like a build I could pull off with intense supervision. More of a work alongside type of thing. Need to start somewhere right.

PLenty of Shitsubishi forums out there. Join up and ask them. New engine mounts, your gonna need a new rear axel setup and prolly a new front end for the awd setup and so you dont rip through the pinion gears. I doubt the ecu harnesses will be plug and play, so have fun running wires everywhere. Be prepared to prolly loose out on some creature comforts, AC, maybe power steering, ect.

Check the latest posts. The 4g63 is near impossible and definitely not worth it.


This new path, 4g64 2.5l, seems extremely doable
