Why do people get so pissed when I tell them not to leave their skis on a rack?

Every time I see a "my skis got stolen" thread, I make a point to post that you shouldn't be leaving your skis on a rack at a crowded public resort and expect them to be there when you get back. Sure, you can split them, try to watch them from inside, or lock them up, but the fact remains that it's impossible to get away with stealing skis out of a person's hands, and thus you should all carry them inside.

I have been known to leave my skis outside, but never together and only when I'm going in to warm my feet on cold ass days and I can directly see them from inside. I have also never been to a resort that doesn't allow skis in the lodge. I was at a mountain here in IL on friday and my friends and I walked in with our skis no problem even though there were signs posted. Nobody said a thing. Why do people get so pissed about this? Why do people call me out for being stupid or trolling when I say this shit? I've been skiing for 17 years and never has it been anything but common sense not to leave your skis unattended.

and before you're all like "you should be more sympathetic, getting skis stolen sucks" I've had a bike that was more expensive than any pair of skis on this site AND that I had been riding for the past 4 years stolen from being locked on a rack at the dew tour. I definitely know how it feels.

because most resorts don't allow you to take your skis inside. most of the time, that is the case with the resort at which the person's skis were stolen. you're fucking retarded.

why would you bring such an expensive bike to the dew tour and leave it on a rack? was it the winter dewtour? and all the resorts i go to do not allow you to take skis inside. the lodge is tiny and packed as it is, they would never allow all that equipment inside. and seriously, it sucks to have something stolen. its never happened to me, but i still show empathy on those threads if i cant otherwise help out. you should be a little more sympathetic and not take the role of Captain Hindsight. good advice is good advice, but sympathy doesnt hurt

but I don't understand why people would not know this in the first place. I'm not being cocky at all, just saying. This is what you can do to one fucking hundred percent ensure that at the end of the day, your skis still belong to you.

lots of resorts don't allow skis/board inside. they want you to buy ski check. $3 to protect skis that may have cost $1000+ is a no-brainer. AND you don't have to carry them around

and yeah getting shit stolen is a total bummer, bro

and sorry, in my entire life of skiing I have never heard the term "ski check." but if that's the reason then why don't people just say "you can't bring your skis inside at my hill" and leave it at that? I mean I know the average age here is about 12 but the whole "you're retarded/ignorant/an asshole/gay" thing is a little ridiculous.

I tried to bring my skis into the lodge the other day. They yelled at my and told me to throw them outside. A few racers then proceed to come in with their skis and they don't say anything to them.

security at a mountain? seriously, do I live in a different world than all of you? I know UPD chills at mountains in utah but that's just because it's easier to sit around and take reports and bust kids for weed than it is to actually affect positive change in your community as a cop.

i worked in a bar on the slopes in the alps and didn't let anyone leave their skis and boards inside. once one person does it everyone wants to do it and then it becomes chaos. I always hate leaving my stuff outside when i'm inside but what else can you do?

a guy who'd been at the resort for a few seasons was telling us about this group who'd drive round the resorts in a van and park near slopeside restaurants, each grab a handful of skis and drive off. most of them would be rental skis but they probably made like $2000 for each place they stopped.

You should be able to leave your skis on a rack because:

A ski resort is supposed to be a nice place, people pay a lot of money to be there. It's not some shit place in a shit neighborhood with shitty people everywhere. You should be able to leave your skis outside of the lodge and go in for a minute. You would think that people that go to ski resorts would have enough class and respect to not steal someone's skis and possibly ruin that person's winter, but there's always one asshole that ruins everything.

They may not care to much when there are a few people doing it, but think of this. If every ski on that skirack was inside it would be complete chaos. That is why resorts dont allow skis inside. Stop being an idiot and think for a second.

i was gonna quote you but i have multiple things to reply to. first off it makes sense it was a bmx stop of the dew tour. thats understandable and im sorry to hear it got stolen. second, most of the mountains i go to have ski checks. third i dont get anything else you said in that one about ski checks/ the relevance of what you said. fourth i dont think the average age is 12. fifth i havent heard of security either, but just people who work there will see you and say no way, reason why has been stated here already. sixth do you mean ACTUAL racial profiling or just the gangster clothes style? because if its the latter i agree. seventh, see my first post, it apply to everything else id like to restate.

1. yeah this makes sense. but then again, if they have racks outside and allow people to bring shit in, as does every resort in utah, then no problem. brighton and alta allow people to bring skis inside, yet there is no problem with it.

2. no you jackasses, I didn't mean ACTUAL racial profiling. how would that even make sense, 99.95% of people on every damn ski hill in the nation and possibly the northern hemisphere have white ass skin. I was trying to make a joke and maybe make a few people laugh, but I forgot how srsbzns internetz is.

3. EPIC fucking luls at the kid who says "your shitty resorts." click on my name. look at my location. utah. it's a little state wedged in between colorado and nevada, maybe you've heard of it?

Sucks to be you guys, but my resort well "hill" lol has a indoor rack thats nice and padded and has tables by it so I just sit and watch my skis while I stuff my fat face with food and beer :)

op, some resorts dont take kindly to gear that you bring inside.

i personally like what hyland hills does. they have a free "gear coral" where you give your gear to a worker in a little fenced in area in exchange for a ticket, then when you want your stuff back you turn in your ticket.

Because when you try to walk through the lodge on a fucking PACKED day with 1000 people trying to eat their $15 fries and you and your friends are swinging your bloody planks around you look like a couple of massive gapers getting in the way of everyone.

It's not hard to leave your skis somewhere you can see them. Or buy a $20 cable lock if you're that worried. People who steal skis are opportunists, they're looking for something easy to take. Just like a club-lock on your car takes 20 seconds for a pro to remove but will stop deadshit joyriders.

But as everyone is saying, imagine if everybody tried to take their skis into the lodge. It would be ridiculous.
