Ski boots on a plane

I have recently been travelling and was chatting to a couple of my mates about the rules airlines have on carrying ski luggage. Some airlines charge you an absolute bomb by charging you both for boots and skis. We were wondering what would happen, in an attempt to avoid the charge for boots, if you travelled in your ski boots. Surely it has been attempted before by someone. What do you think would happen?

I'm sick and tired of these monday friday ski boots on this monkey fighting plane.  lelz.

But traveling while wearing ski boots would be terrible.  You can usually just strap them onto your backpack and it still counts as part of your carry on.  I know Delta at least counts both a ski bag and a boot bag as a single bag as long as both weight under 50 pounds together.  Also, since airlines are now charging more for baggage people are carrying much more onto the airplane and the room goes quickly, so the last few flights I was on they offer to check your "carry on" for free at the gate.

i just brought by boot bag on as a carry-on yesterday, and it worked fine.

I flew to Chile this past summer with my boots attached to the outside of my carry on backpack. I didn't get any shit at all. This was waaay cheaper than checking skis plus boots.

If they don't let you attach em to your carry on, simply put em on your feet!

yeah i know how to get onto a plane with ski boots. what i meant was what would happen if you travlled whilst wearing ski boots? what would security say do you think?

Nothing they can do. Ski boots are the same as any other shoe (in TSA's eyes). So you will have to take them off at the security checkpoint. But once they scan em you can put em back on an afterbang all the way through the terminal.

wear them around your neck, you dont get hassled at all, i never check my boots if im flying to ski somewhere

I always carry on by boots. If the airlines lose your bags your are in trouble. If you have your boots on hand you can pretty easily borrow/demo some skis.

I don't see why you would want to have them on when you can just as easily throw them over your shoulders.

carry on. i normally have 3 pieces: personal item(laptop backpack), carry on(duffelbag), and ski boots. Aint no one ever given me guff for it.

And yes i am fully aware that you are only allowed 2 pieces of luggage in the cabin...technically.

Coming back from Colorado on Southwest, the ski boots weighed down the luggage too much so I had to carry ONE boot on. Wasn't really a problem aside from the fact that ski boots smell like hot garbage....

Dude idk what you're smokin on but just throw your boots in your carry on. They just scan your boots as part of the bag. So unless your suffing pipe bombs in ski boots, then it shouldn't be a problem. Sure its heavier, but there is no way in fucking hell i'd ever walk through a public area (except in a ski environment of course) with ski boots on. Besides man, I think you'd start making too much noise or borderline damaging the ground because of your boots. That's the exact reason why most 7/11's or local gas stations make you take your boots off before you come in, and its also because gapers fall so fucking much in boots because they think they can do it. So unless you wanna be a gaper poser, just throw those things in your carry on mayne, 




I believe you boys across the sea would call a person wearing ski boots in a public area a "WANKuh"

They count as a personal item and the airline will never not allow you to carry them on like that for the simple reason that if they crack it you can just put them on and wear them through customs and onto the plane. They wont want a shitfight over nothing. They'd rather screw you on the weight of your checked ski bag.

I attempted this, on Ryanair. I got to security, and they made me go back to check in, wait in line for another 30 mins, and check my boot bag in.

I wouldn't risk it tbh.

Every single time i've flown, besides once to go to disneyland when i was 11, i've brought my ski boots just chilling over my carry-on backpack and also my longboard on with me. most airlines consider your skiboot/backpack combo to be one thing as your carry on then a longboard or skateboard to be your personal item.

this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Ski boots do not cost anything to get on a plane. If you show up to the counter and check your skis/boots/poles in three separate bags they still count it as one. About ever airline has a regulated luggage section on their website. They ALL count skis as "one set of skis, poles and boots" as a "set of skis". If you wear your boots onto the plane you are a fucking retard. Your friends are all idiots.

I sell lodging to people from all over the world to a very large ski resort and I have NEVER even had someone ask this question. I have answered the question "where do you put the moguls in the summer" but I have never heard of " should I wear my boots on the plane".

i have a big ski bag that fits boots, i put all my outerwear and stuff in there too and its never been over weight (usually a 50lb wight limit)

Airline policies in the UK/some europe are very un-ski-friendly when it comes to luggage. They usually have to be checked on as a separate bag, so it does cost. Very different than airlines in the US.

I didn't ask if I should wear boots on a plane. I was just wondering what would happen if someone did because yes it would be pretty retarded to do so!

i i put them in my hand luggage when i fly. really what do you need? a laptop or music player will fit in there as well and for long haul flights they usually have entertainment.
