Greenest Ski Areas

BOOSH and Stevens Pass comes in at #8, although I think we should be #1 considering we are:

100% wind-powered
2 Electric vehicle charging stations (only two in the country on a mountain pass)
State of the art Water-treatment plant that does not use harmful chemicals like chlorine
Extensive composting and recycling effort (all of our cups/utensils are compostable)

anywho, espn didn't think so.

Thoughts?

sure stevens pass sounds pretty green according to your stats there, but there is a lot more to take into account than just energy conservation...click on the link i provided above and there will be comprehensive score cards for ski resort environmental preformance

yeah, i disagree with the 'Protecting Watersheds' score.

our sewer district people take fecal-matter content readings upstream from the water treatment plant, and those are HIGHER than the output of the sewer plant

Also, we got 0 for 'Preserving Undisturbed Lands from Development' WE HAVEN'T BUILT A LIFT SINCE 1998!!

they should have gave more detailed explanation there

Its because the county sprays shit onto clearcuts up in the Tolt Reservoir by helicopter. I kid you not, I've been bike riding back there on old logging roads, they crop dust the watershed with human solid waste.

Stevens Pass ftw though!

that's at least 20 miles from the ski area....


uggh oh well, we take environmental protection/sustainability seriously...i wish we'd get a bit more recognition

There's definitely some questionable scoring for Stevens. Stevens is the only resort I'm familiar with so I can say if other resorts have questionable results as well.

Why they received 0 for "Actively supporting environmentally progressive local, state, or federal policies or legislation involving forest and land management issues that impact mountain ecosystems and environments." is beyond me as the reason specifically states what they are doing in respect to starting ecosystem protection programs as well as local legislation.

Also, it looks like they received 0 for avoiding new snowmaking. They don't make snow. Isn't that even better? That was the only reason they got a C on the watershed category.

I personally feel there are other issues (some unfair/disadvantageous to specific resorts) with this scoring system, as well as some fields that should be added into the scoring system. Not that I don't think it works. Its a great system and resorts should definitely strive to score highly.

greenest place with to ski is sundown mountain in dubuque iowa my home mountain it gets decent snow but it opens on december 9 and closes spring break
