Music Mashing - Can Someone Point Me In The Right Direction?

Im really interested in starting to learn how to edit music and mash, purely for my own enjoyment. I basically just want to be able to add beats, slow/speed up tempo. crop, add lyrics from other songs, and I'm sure many other things.

I'm not looking for tutorials on how to do this from NS, i'm just wondering if anyone on NS who does this could give me some pointers? I downloaded ableton for mac from a torrent, but i have a feeling its not very compatible with mac. Would anyone be able to suggest a good mac program for this? Any Advice is greatly appreciated and I realize i'm a total noob and probably sound like one. My computer specs are below, if they are not adequate, i also had a 27" iMac with a quad core i5 (2.8GHz?).

Or if absolutely necessary i'll install windows via bootcamp.

Ableton is exactly what you need, just get it up and running and watch youtube tutorials on how to use it, it's super easy once you figure out the basics of warping tracks and such
