I have never had such a hard time deciding what size ski to get. I work at a ski shop and it is still this hard for me to decide! I have already heard what all my co-workers have had to say, but now I want to hear from some people here on NS. It comes in a 178 and an 185. one being just as tall as me, and the other being just a few inches over my head (without boots on). I am worried the 78 will be too short and the 85 will be too long. I am 5'8 145 lbs, type 3+ skier and will be using them for hardpack, park and some variable conditions and off piste, but I have other skis for the deep pow days, so I will be center mounting them, if not very close to center. I am already used to skiing on a 181 park ski (t-halls) and the 185 scimitar is exactly as tall off the ground as my t-halls But, being a bit wider, and having that rocker, I am concerned they will feel heavy like a pow ski, and maybe therefore I should stick with the 178. Im not that techy on rails or anything, but I do want something that will play around and spin alot easier than my fatty Surface New Lifes. On the other hand I am worried that with the 178, I will not have enough nose (or tail for that matter) if center mounted, also the fact that they are 2mm narrower underfoot (96mm vs. 98mm on the 185), and will not float as well as the longer one if I need it to. ANY input will be a big help to me. Any guys out there as short as me skiing on the 185?? thanks and +k.
still kinda going for the 178s but im scared of getting a ski that feels and looks too short under my feet. and witjh the 185s im concerned i will eventually regret having a longer ski for some reason or another. the only people i have seen on the 185s are way taller than me but the i think about how dumont skis a pipe ski that is like 6" taller than him at least
If i were you I would get the 185s the rocker will make them ski shorter, and you can learn to ski a longer ski but if you go to short you're kinda in for it and when you take off the groomers you wont have nearly as muh fun as you would if you had a longer ski
i see what you mean but like i said i have fatties for when it gets deep or cruddy... and for that reaso alone i made mysef get the 178s. tired of teling myself that they might be too short. who am i kidding i sell skis for a living and for some reason i thought i needed to think differently when shoping for myself vs recomending to someone else.
