Hey man i am learning 5's too. I can do them sometimes, whenever i get them i think of getting the three around, then when i know i have time left, i pretend i just got in the air and spin the 180 around, just spin your head the direction you are spinning and then stop so your rotation stops at 540. and your skis will adjust if you are a bit off just make sure you made it past 500-520 degrees and you will be fine. Hope this helped a bit... Anyone hate if you think im wrong....
ya this may be a good idea to try. i'd say huck it on a jump and just keep your head turned to where you wanna go. for me, i would keep my head turned to where i wanna go and i could do a 5 no problem. i actually did those more than 3's so just keep that head turned and your body will follow.
I landed them first try today! Make sure to keep looking over your shoulder and not at your landing at 360. Really, just don't over think it. I came into the jump (non intentionally) forgetting that i was gonna do a 5. I just threw it and stomped...and after banged. Just go for it and you'll get it.
Dont go for 450.. My advice would be get comfortable landing switch on a larger jump like ski0 said ^. Once your comfortable landing switch they are no harder than 3s you can spot them almost the whole time. Just set a little harder.
Only difference on a bigger jump is that you have more time to spot and compensate for setting to hard/not hard enough.
do big exaggerated 3 and once you get that around spot your landing but keep the rest of your body spinning (like a twister kinda) to land switch. and do really big180s to get he feeling of landing switc hon bigger jumps
When I do my 5's I wrap up just like a 3. Only difference is I spin harder off the lip. I keep my head spinning until I hit 450 and at that point all I have to do is turn your skis 90° more to land switch. Try to land looking up at the top of the landing so you don't end up washing out on your tips or landing way tip heavy. I would also recommend landing a little tip heavy that way if you're under rotated your skis will still spin and land straight.
When I landed my first 5 I was warming up by thinking about doing a 5 while doing a 3
I accidentally 5'd and it was awesome, just think about it really hard, throw a 3 and see if you have time left to throw the extra 180 at the end
try landing a 7 first. then you can slow down the seven and you'll just need to get comfortable landing switch on the 5. i dont know why, but when i was learning 5s, i tended to get to three and like freeze up and get afraid of landing backwards. learning this way helped for me.
Wow... Man IMO I think you should huck off like a 10ft jump and try get 450 first. You won't be going high enough or fast enough to stack badly, or even at all! Don't get caught up in the moment. Do what you feel is right because all people learn different. That's why I don't make threads about this stuff, because I am an independent, self taught learner!
i learnt 5's by doing 3's and just opening up at the end to slow my self down then just take out the opening up (stay tucked in more) and keep your head turning until you spot the landing
5's are a wicked fun spin once u get them down. i got it locked down last season and now i'm startin to 7. but 5's are just perfect i feel. whenever i 3 i feel like i'm not spinning enough but that extra 1 makes it feel much better. it takes some time and commitment but once u stomp em u'll love em
