I've been riding park for as long as I can remember and skiing for even longer. Every year I take 1 or 2 trips out west to shred some big mountain skiing and every year (Thank God) I have great luck with the weather and get crushed with monster powder while out there. BTW, I'm 5'8 and about 165, and a very advanced skier.
Currently I'm riding 177 2012 Volkl Walls. I rode 174 K2 Rockered pow skis last year while out in Vail, which I felt were a bit on the small end. I can't recall the names of the actual skis at this point in time, but I know they were Obsethed's or anything along those quality. I felt they were a few years old at least. My girl friend and I were riding in about waist deep powder for the majority of the morning, much to her displeasure (she didn't really catch on to the whole pow ski style too quickly haha). But was still a good sport. Either way the skis kept me a float and was able to attack the terrain agressively...my only concern was the size. Because they were rockered I felt they were a tad too small for me, considering my park skis are a bit taller then these.
I'm looking to either grab myself a pair of either 10/11 Atomic Bent Chetlers or a pair of 11/12 Scott Mega Dozers. The Bent Chetlers in size 183 or the Mega Dozers in size 185. My question to all my pow experts out there is with my height and weight, would you consider these skis too tall for me? Should I be riding 173-175 length? Any input would be greatly appreciated!
I know I don't get a chance to ride pow all to often, but I just hate demoing skis with those heavy ass bindings they throw on em. I figure I can afford to buy myself a pair, throw some bindings I love on em, and call em my own....I'll be riding em for a while so might as well haha.
Thanks guys!
