Replacing kit lens

So i am looking to buy a t2i and i now the hate but a have a lot of experience on my parents t1i and i found a t2i body for around 450 new without a lens and i was wondering if i could replace it with a 28-80 cannon lense from a old canon film camera which dosent have IS so my main question is if IS is really that important for filming btw 60% flim 40% picture

what is your budget for the lens? If you could go around $350 you could get a tamron 17-50 f2.8 non vc and that would be a great lens to start out with for video...

You can... However I would assume that the lens is an FD mount, meaning you'll need to buy an adapter with a glass element that costs upwards of $100. In my opinion you're better off getting a 50mm f/1.8. The 28-80 is the older film equivalent of the 18-55 which is a terribly poor quality piece of glass.

As far as IS, it helps when you're shooting with a tele (something in the 100+ range) but with a half way decent tripod you're fine without it.

and sorry OP forgot to answer your question it is an older lens so i would assume but probably check this first that it is an FD mount so you would need an adapter and from what I have seen the lens you have suggested using is not a very good piece of glass so I would just recommend getting a whole new piece of glass altogether...

It will go on my parents t1i so i am asuming that the t2i has the same mount

Yeah, it's just a normal EF mount. There's been quite some film EF lenses.

And also: 450 new? Like brand new, or secondhand-but-in-good-shape new?

Because 450$ new sounds like a scam...
